I mean he basically said it in multiple interviews even before he was traded. Sabres really f@cked up those 5 years from 2016 to 21 even more than the other 8 of Sh!t.

As usual, in their contract year, players all of a sudden seem to play at the top of their game... Then they take their foot of the gas.
It will be interesting to see how Sam produces next season.

Rhino is having an insane season, but he’s been very consistent in his time as a Panther. This year, everything is going in the net. His game isn’t predicated on his speed, it’s high hockey iq and sick hands. I think his game will hold up as he ages through his next contract. Not trying to knock rhino, but their PP is a pick your poison type of scenario for the defense, and 5v5 he has Barkov setting him up after he finds the open spot. Rhino has the hands to capitalize on his chances, I think those hands will age well. We’ll see how much playing on a very good team, a stacked team with good management while living in a nice climate is worth to him.

He is killing it on the PP for sure. Also, he has been shooting quite a bit more than when with the Sabres... And enjoying nearly 2x higher in Shot%. That 26% rate is crazy.
That's a winning proposition, shoot more (and shoot better?).

I think my worry with him is the foot speed. IQ is great. Shot has really improved and passing has always been impeccable. However, if he loses a step, he's Matt Moulson real quick. Panthers can't trade him, need to resign but I'm curious what the cap hit will be. IMO he isn't taking that $7M contract folks were talking about in the offseason. I wonder if 9-10 is more in line at this point.

not much different and honestly I never heard anyone complain about tage's speed

cap friendly scouting report has skunk at 79 for speed, same as girgens and tage at 80

Pride doesn't make you skate faster unfortunately. Sam also gets a good bump up being with Barkov, if that goes away and the production falls back, a big contract could be an issue there.

Y'all know I love Sam. I just don't think he's worth 9-10M is all.

Tage I don't because he'll still have the shot. While Sam's has improved, he isn't the guy to beat goalies from range. I also think Tage is considerably faster. Looking at his play recently, in the Tampa OT game, he turned the jets on and forced the D to hook. He's still got a higher gear than Sam IMO. At the same point, Tage is also considerably bigger and harder to get off the puck. I don't think they're the best comparable, even if Matty Mo is being a bit unkind.
