Benson is taller than Todd Marchand. Is anyone here going to call Marchand “too small” to play hockey? Nothing personal, but the point is objectively wrong. It’s just not a valid criticism. The problem with Benson is he’s still 18, he’s got a crap coach, and he’s on a team that’s constructed very, very poorly.

As an outsider looking in. I was actually quite surprised by Mittelstadt for Byram. For me looking in. He leads all forwards in points. Sure I get that there are injuries to guys and etc. But he seemed to me to finally becoming a solid player. Byram is always hurt. And ive seen mentioned by others as I scrolled the comments. Why does Buffalo need so many left shot dman. That isnt my question really. It was at first. But it doesnt really matter if they are left or right shot if your getting really good talent. If it upgrades the team. So be it. But im still not sure what im missing with this deal. Obviously as an outsider looking in. I saw this deal as a home run for the Av's. Esp based on their other moves and getting rid of RyJo.

Yeah but is Benson gonna do what Marchand does. Marchands intangibles are a rare thing. Like him or not. He draws your team penalties while making us fans go nuts because we see what the refs dont. Or they choose not to see. A small player has a harder time in this league for many reasons. But if you find your Niche or are way talented. The size question goes away.

Benson is only 18, he hasn't even filled out yet. Let's see what he looks like in 2 or 3yrs

Quite the comp.
You clearly don’t know what playing on the Sabres does to players, Benson will never be Marchand.

Just comes down to sell high, buy low. They got the more talented player. It's a risk, but not a bad one.
Also the financial side. They were going to struggle to pay Mitts long term. Something had to give there. In some ways, it's was always Cozens or Mitts here.

I’m the one that mentioned Marchand, and it was simply to rebut the “too small” assertion. I actually do think Benson is showing some signs of having that kind of game though. I also agree that Granato could very well ruin this kids development completely.
