He’s done a good job developing these guys , seems like we have enough talent to get us to the playoffs

An assistant shakeup is in order. Adding someone who looks a viable HC would send a good message.

despite the phrasing here, it made a lot of sense. no one has a crystal ball, no one knew byram would ever be available, no one knew pick 10ish would be in the NHL in a year or two let alone immediately, no one knew zach benson would drop past 7, and no one knew you'd be able to use casey mittelstadt to acquire a player like bo byram.

kevyn was saved by fate and the coyotes asking the sabres for too much (og post referenced ottawa comp) and got the better player for a lesser cost, a year later.

So, the take away is that unexpected occurrences happen on a regular basis.

The next time someone says "that will never happen", "when was the last time that happened", who is trading that", "nobody makes them available"...know that it has indeed happened, and will continue to happen. The GM has to make it happen.

I remember several years ago posting that the Sabres needed a 2C at the time...I combed through the previous 5 years of trades to uncover 15-ish trades of "2C" players who were indeed traded. He took exception to 1 player ?. One fvcking player (who played wing, but took 700 draws the past season) to disqualify the entire list.

Point is, Fitz is a mother (frank)in bumhole...oh, and trades of the unexpected infact do happen.
Your GM just has to have some friggin balls.

Youngest team in the NHL and probably the least conditioned team in the league. Skinner looked like a 40 year old player out there. Cousins effort was disappointing.
