Scoring dried up while Torts was coaching the NYR. Torts tried scratching and benching players, shuffling lines, and using positive and negative reinforcement but nothing worked. When a writer asked him what else he could do, Torts said ‘pray’. Has he tried positive reinforcement or is he down to prayer? - Minnyhock
Here is what happens with Tortorella teams in my opinion
Here is what is going to happen. It's not a question of if but when. These players are going to eventually realize that the system and style that they play, that requires a playoff level intensity through the entire season. Requires putting their bodies on the line in an emphasis on shot blocking. Is not going to result in winning anything. It's not going to result in anything but being competitive. That the broken bones, pain and bruises are not going to get them close to the ultimate goal. Combine that with his awful in game management. His poor inability to develop young players as well as his ingratiating personality. Will eventually result in this team tuning him out. And it will all fall apart. It's just a question of how long it will take.

Yup
Coming up on 14 years since they last reached the SCF (if not for a shootout win, that number would be 27), and they haven’t reached the final four in back to back years since 1977 & 78.
They never rebuild
They never learn
They need to sell the team and start over from scratch. This organization is broken and beyond repair. - BiggE
I agree ALMOST 100%. I said I was out after they lucked into mm if they don’t move hart tk laughts. Hart gone although no return it’s still better than committing long term big money. I said I would give it until the tdl and draft. Welp they did nothing that shows rebuild at tdl but could just be no offer good. I will give it til draft. Unless I see tk extension then out on this team totally. Not gonna waste another decade |

So here’s a fun question: would you Flyers fans trade Torts for Keefe?
Perhaps the grass is always greener, but I make that trade. - Atomic Wedgie
yes....and keep that Nazi midget alien in your thread |

I don't blame them for hiding the Gauthier situation. That was the right approach. As far as the rest, make no mistake about it. Right now, Tortorella is calling the shots. He is the main voice. He has Jones and Hilferty in his back pocket. Briere at worst is complicit and on board and at best is the dissenting red headed step child who is outvoted. It could change in the future but that's how I see it. - MJL
I kinda thought same thing on cutter when it first came out but after letting it simmer in my mind I think they absolutely botched that with cutter. (frank) cutter. We don’t negotiate with terrorist. They should’ve made it VERY VERY VERY public the minute they were shooned. Let him sit in college the 4 years making no money. Wasting his time. Risking injury. (frank) him. Cutter would’ve been crucified by Philly fans. No blame to briere or team at all.
And if cutter came to his senses and signed all would’ve been forgiven. Especially when he scores. Which he will. He is maybe an elite level talent.
It’s like when nfl players cry and scrub social media of team during contract talks and blah blah blah through media. Once signed and playing all is forgiven.
In retrospect Philly kinda caved. Cutter got what he wanted so he wins. And Philly is left with what? A lesser player and some moments of bravado? He doesn’t want to be here we don’t want him bs? |

Two guys who aren’t good enough to play hockey in the NHL, so in warmup they agree to do each other a solid by playing punchy-punchy at centre ice.
FFS, they were congratulating each other in the box for preserving their jobs. |

Solid period for the Flyers, though they need to handle the Toronto forecheck a lot better, turning pucks over at their own blue line way too much. Frost line looks good. Frost is the 1C tonight, Attard and Ginning together again, Brink in the lineup, Atkinson out of the lineup. Yet people on this forum still complaining. Honestly the Flyers look like they will survive Couts being out of the lineup for a game or two. I'll tell you one thing, Couts couldn't have fought Ryan Reaves. |

I thought they were lucky to get out of the period up…they can’t sit back like that or this is going to go the other way. |

Not following your question. I think they should explore trading both Konecny and Laughton. - MJL
There is no EXPLORE. You trade them. They have absolute known value. They aren’t scrubs. At worst you open up all channels to let it be known they are available and take highest bid. And that’s at worst. At best briere plays cards well and gets maximum value.
What you absolutely do not do is keep them and god forbid extend them.

Perhaps but this is what made me think that.
"These are the reasons, not Coots' minutes."
Tortorella has made a huge error here and has used up a big chunk of capital with the players to make a move that is likely not going to make a positive impact. It reeks of incompetence and desperation. - MJL
A two time, and soon to be three time, Jack Awards winner with over 700 NHL wins, is desperate and incompetent according to you
Do you endeavor every day to sound stupider than you did the day before? What an embarrassment! |

That they aren't scrubs is exactly why you explore trades. Neither are players that you shop and take the best offer. You have to get the correct value, especially for Konecny. There is no doubt that they're going to extend Konecny.

All respect due but a lot of folks were okay w signing Coots. Full disclosure I am one of them. He hasn’t played well but you can’t discount being away from the ice for two years on top of the usage for more than half the season.
I don’t agree w the benching but it is what it is at this point. What I don’t like is the fact that Torts didn’t address the media and let Shaw take the questions. - Flyfly
No offense intended but those that were all fine with extending coots were wrong. His 2 years missed just makes it worse.
What’s important is that a lesson is learned from that extension.
The benching of coots doesn’t matter. With the extension the damage was done already. Even those in favor of extension SURELY knew contract would NOT age well. What happened was the first half of extension didn’t even pan out for those in favor of extension.
Like I said it was doomed the minute he signed it. And I’ll also point out everyone is quick to simply give props to coots first few months of season. Why? How much was him and how much was other performing well on their own? |

He has no chance of winning the Jack Adams award this season. His decision to scratch Couturier is just that. A waste of coaching capital that will not have any effect. Stop acting like a child.

100% agree with this. Reminds me of when Buffalo made playofffs with the hardest working team in hockey with Ted Nolan as coach.
Respect the effort and all and sometimes semi entertaining but never gonna win cup. Which should be the goal |
