Check out Couturiers ice time in December and January. Averaged over 20 minutes a game, with several outings of 23 and 24 minutes.

Tortorella pulverized Sean Couturier to get that precious short term dopamine hit. The Flyers really are cavemen. Never thinking about the long game. |

It was always smoke and mirrors. Anyone who couldn't see that what they were doing was unsustainable was fooling themselves.
Running Coots into the ground was part of the reason for the hot start and the current collapse. - Flyers_01
That’s a bit of a stretch. The defense is depleted from injuries and the trade and we no longer have a goalie tandem. It was sustainable for 60 games, they just don’t have the depth. |

I don’t care if they make the playoffs, they need to make the right moves in the summer. Trade Laughton, don’t make dumb signings, okay the long game. |

There really is not a lot of UFA blueline options this summer. Dumba and Walker are really the best options. At center, Lindholm and Stamkos. Next summer, more depth like Theodore, Hedman, and Draisaitl off the top of my head-certainly subject to change.. Now I do expect trades this summer. |

The metro is freaking horrible this year. It feels like half the teams are trying to get a better draft pick. The Flyers may have a hard time playing themselves out of a playoff position. - Flyers_01
four teams that don't want to make the playoffs anymore and one that really does want to (the Isles) but they just suck. |

Torts is a festering turd. Can’t wait til he’s gone though my fear is that President Doofus will get rid of Briere before the guy who is really running the organization.
Couts had missed nearly 2 full seasons and was coming off 2 serious back surgeries. So what does our brilliant HC do? He runs him out there for 20+ minutes per night right from the get go. No wonder he’s now out of gas, probably dinged up, and struggling. But here’s the thing, if you look at advanced stats, he is ALWAYS among the top 7-8 forwards each and every damn game! So scratching him is just Torts being a bunghole.
A smart coach, one with enough sense to know that on a rebuilding team, you play the long game, would have started the season with Couts playing a middle 6 role with his minutes carefully monitored. Furthermore, a smart coach would give him ample time off and would probably sit him occasionally in b2b situations.
Torts is self obsessed blowhard who loves playing mind games with his players. He is out of date and out of touch with today’s game. Does he get a lot out of his teams? Yeah, to some degree. But ask yourself this, what would better benefit the team in the long run:
Barely limping into the final playoff spot and getting bounced in round one, or just missing and either way drafting in the 13-17 spot
Or
Playing the long game, not just with Couts, but overall, and finishing with 70-75 points and picking in the 5-8 range with at least some chance of moving up to 1 or 2?
FU Torts - BiggE
Tortorella is a narcissistic coach who never cared about the future and only cares about his own legacy and his own success. This franchise has hitched their wagon to him and it is only going to continue their legacy. Which is weighed down in perpetual mediocrity. They aren't going anywhere as long as Tortorella is involved.

If Coots is REALLY being scratched due to performance issues it is a travesty. I still think this is cloak and dagger stuff covering up an injury. It just makes ZERO sense when you have no depth at center. However, Coots isn't the reason for the collapse. Their schedule has been brutal lately and they basically lost 4 defenseman (Walker, Seeler, Charmain man (Drysdale) and Risto). How many teams are gonna lose their best defense pairing (Seeler and Walker) and just keep chugging along? |

Couturier is giving everything he has. I 100% believe that. The coach is betraying him if you ask me. Used him up and is now throwing him in the trash.

it was only a matter of time before the mutiny comes about as it was inevitable. Now not as soon as I thought as they played above expectations all year.
just think if any of the teams below the flyers played up to just average expectations. where would the flyers be?
edit: maybe forcing him to request a trade....I kid..somewhat |

With that Courturier quote about not being treated well, is this a sign that the coach has lost/is losing the locker room already? Players, especially veterans, are usually more selective in their words if everything is fine.

I don't think Gurianov even knows where he is at the moment.

what was bad/wrong with that meaningless trade? is this really the best you can bring to the table? |
