Couturier sounds like a petulant child. “The way I’ve been treated around here” you mean being paid 8 million the last few years and not playing. Shows zero perspective. - PLindbergh31
Easy…lol…I’m pretty sure this is a first for his entire career. Let’s give him a little leeway with his answers today. |

With his contract and health history…tied to this years production….he’s going no where. - landros 2
Never said he was. He just has to read the roam and see that he is stuck unless he finds team to eat part of his salary.

My problem with this narrative of blaming Torts for running Couts into the ground. Let's presume Couts is not injured because he said he was not. Doesn't this debunk the notion that Torts ran him into the ground? If other centers on the team were playing better earlier in the season (Yes Frost, talking about you), maybe Torts would not have to play Couts 20+ minutes. But regardless, there is no evidence that I have seen or read that points to Couts current play being a result of playing 20+ minutes earlier in the season. Even when Couts was playing 20+ minutes earlier in the season, I didn't think he was playing all that well, in fact he said as much when interviewed, that his game was still a ways off. Over the season, his game just hasn't got there to warrant playing the big minutes. Don't blame the coach, blame the player. The coach is doing what he is supposed to do, coach to win games with the roster he has been given by the GM. - jd250
That's the problem. You're basing it on what you thought about Couturier's play earlier in the season. It's been proven that you don't have a clue of what you're looking at. On a daily basis.
I don't want to kid myself that this is the beginning of the end for Tortorella but one can hope.
Here is what is going to happen. It's not a question of if but when. These players are going to eventually realize that the system and style that they play, that requires a playoff level intensity through the entire season. Requires putting their bodies on the line in an emphasis on shot blocking. Is not going to result in winning anything. It's not going to result in anything but being competitive. That the broken bones, pain and bruises are not going to get them close to the ultimate goal. Combine that with his awful in game management. His poor inability to develop young players as well as his ingratiating personality. Will eventually result in this team tuning him out. And it will all fall apart. It's just a question of how long it will take. You will again be taught a lesson in how little you know about this sport just as you did when you claimed Fletcher put them on the path to the cup. However there is zero chance that you learn from it.

Not all players can produce as well as Deslauriers and Laughton. You’re right. Produce or get off the ice! - StepfordSam
ND has played 57 games so he does sit.
I agree that Laughts should have sat, maybe they hoped his play would improve and someone would want to trade.

If you don't produce you should not get regular ice time.
I know you think opposite and players should be allowed to play through it. How many games should he be allowed, the rest of the season?
It his job to put the team is its best position to win. If you don't produce then get off the ice. You can either sulk and female dog like Hayes and now Coots seems to be doing or be like TK and learn.
1or 2 games of sitting is fine in my eyes. The young kids are trying to earn the contract Coots just signed, so they mat be a bit more hungry.
At the beginning of the season Coots said he did not sign up for a rebuild. Maybe he wants out. - WhiskeyMan
Why wasn't Laughton scratched when he was struggling? You don't think a player like Couturier, with how he has been in his career, coming off of a almost two year injury. Signed to a long term contract. Deserves more?

It was always smoke and mirrors. Anyone who couldn't see that what they were doing was unsustainable was fooling themselves.
Running Coots into the ground was part of the reason for the hot start and the current collapse. - Flyers_01
Believe me I'm not mad or disappointed about missing the playoffs. I'm more mad at the fact they're more than likely picking in the teens again. |

Laughton, Cates, Tippett, Farabee etc, ALL players who didn't "produce" for extended periods of time. - MBFlyerfan
minus tippet. all players sat in games and were also demoted lines. even think tip was demoted a line for some time. cates prob would've been scratched, but the injury did that for him.
also naming the younger players, but then some say let them play though it. which one?

No he is a player like the rest.
I already answered a similar statement about Laughts, yes he should have sat. That is 1 player, who else should have sat?

Good thing the Flyers swindled the Avs into giving up that 1st in the Walker trade. They're going to need it this offseason to convince another team to take Couts & that contract |

He wears a sweater like the rest, he get paid like the rest. He laces them up like the rest. So yes he is like the rest.
But wait, he is the captain, so he should be held to higher standards. His comments do not sound like what a leader should say.
