Except the Bills spend sh¡tloads of money, unlike the Sabres who do everything possible to not spend money, like trading for a goalie who will never play for you just so you can get to the cap floor.

Both the Caps and Red Wings would have to pass them. I know they both have games in hand, but the Red Wings are 1 point back with 1 game in hand. Plus the Caps would also have to pass them for the Flyers to miss. And the Red Wings and Caps play each other once still.

They're far from a lock, but certainly not enough to get Torts fired.

I used to think this, but if the Sabres play this season means anything, it is that game 1 means as much as game 82. In fact, get off to a strong start and maybe games late in the season don't have the same urgency required than when the team digs a hole early and needs to bail itself out by having longer winning streams later.
That is THE concept.
