I actually don't really fault DB with the Petersen thing. I mean, he was a good NHL goalie at one time and DB rolled the dice and lost. It was probably worth a try...it just failed miserably. - Phillywhiteout
Peterson was just as dreadful last year as he was this year. I mean he hit on Walker as a cash dump throw in….but Peterson played as advertised. Awful. |

First of all, on average, he is not faster than McKinnon. Tippett has a slightly higher top recorded speed than McKinnon but game to game and shift to shift, he's not faster than McKinnon. That's neither here nor there though because Tippett is certainly an elite skater.
If Tippett played with an elite center such as McKinnon or McDavid, then sure they could probably elevate his goal scoring.
However on his own merits, Tippett has strengths and weaknesses and they show what he would have to develop and get better at to become a 40 goal scorer. His strengths are his speed down the wing and he has a strong shot. He is able to beat defenders one on one and beat goaltenders. Most of his goal scoring is done in that manner. His weaknesses are he does not possess a strong ability to play off of linemates. To jump into holes and find soft spots in the defense. He does not possess a strong one timer to score more on the PP. He doesn't get to the dirty areas of the ice to score on goal mouth plays and rebounds. These are all elements that he needs to add to his game if he wants to become a 40 goal scorer. He is a long way from that. - MJL

The only person I blame is Hart! What an idiot to even put himself anywhere near that situation. - jd250
Hart was 19 when this happened. dumb? Obviously. A kid? Surely. Alcohol, hormones, immaturity, peer pressure. Been there done that….(while maybe not that) I’m not saying all these (frank)ers shouldn’t get what’s coming to them, but I also want to know the full details before I jump on my soap box and crucify the kid. |

Yes, 23 ES and 5 PP. Tippet will hit 30 before the season is over. My point is Tippet has more ceiling to reach and add to this a more effective PP, and he will be a 40 goal scorer.
I have been thinking a lot about the Flyers PP and have come around to believing the best next steps for them are 1. either replace Rocky Thompson or bring in another coach to work exclusively on the PP and 2. bring in a shooting coach to teach Tippet, Foerster and others on the team how to 1 time a shot with accuracy (Russ Cohen has mentioned this several times throughout the year). The Flyers may not have elite talent, but they have enough talent right now to be at least average, and an average PP would have fixed a lot of issues this season and had the Flyers firmly in a playoff spot. - jd250

5 x 2 = 10
28 - 5 = 23
23 + 10 = 40???? - corduroy

I read an article on him saying he’s a long shot for the Flyers lineup….someone likes him. |

The Flyers saw 6'4" and "feisty physical presence" and immediately thought "old-time hockey". The fact he can skate is a bonus.

Oscar Eklind, LW, 25 (Lulea, SHL)
There’s plenty of interest in Eklind, a 6-foot-4, 220-pound winger. He had a breakout season with 17 goals and 28 points in 48 games with Lulea while being a real feisty, physical presence. He’s a good skater for his size, which could intrigue NHL teams as a potential bottom-six scoring threat. Eklind’s ability to be a finisher has been beneficial for Lulea, and he’s a good net-front presence who can be difficult to move out of the way. There should be no shortage of teams vying for his services.
Lulea is also Mikael Renberg country. |

Actually, that 28 goals would be projected out to a 30 or so, so that would be 35-36 goals. If this team had a puck carrier and a true PP QB it would be better. This is where they miss a guy like Voracek. I tend to agree that Tippett could be better on the PP, but I think you could put Lemieux and Gretzky on this PP and it would somehow suck. - Phillywhiteout
He wouldn't really benefit from a puck carrier tho... since he usually has no problem creating his own chances and he doesn't exactly use his linemates that much.
His problem is he's just not that consistent at finishing. He's frankly a bit of an inaccurate shooter.
To hit 40 would require extraordinary bump in finishing from him... maybe he'd be able to do it once, but I don't see a perennial 40-goal guy at all. |

He has 28 goals in 74 games. Projects out to 30 or so. Why is 40 such a stretch? This team doesn't have anywhere close to a true #1 center at this point and with Coots fading I don't think they have a true #2 center. Give this guy a true #1 center and he would get 40 if he plays the full 82 game schedule. He's already faster than Mackinnon.
- Phillywhiteout
well, McK is one of the absolute best players in the league. Going from 30 to 40 goals is a HUGE step in the NHL. Those two players should not even be mentioned in the same breath. For all of our sake - I hope you are right but I am not holding my breath. |

I agree, and I have posted something similar in the past. In the end Hart had to be at least present when whatever happened, happened, in order to be charged with sexual assault. And whether he actually assaulted the young women or not, he should have been miles from that situation. At 19 years old, he was plenty mature enough to know better. |

He’s a Kreider in the making. Very similar numbers so far and style
Kreider was signed to his deal, 6.5 per after a season of 28 goals and a season of a pace of 32 goals, with heavier trade protections. So it seems like we definitely should not be complaining about tippett’s contract |

That's a stretch. A player blossoming into a 40 goal scorer with one season of 52 that late in age is not a regular occurrence. I hope you're right but I doubt it. There are holes in Tippet's game.
