I would definitely move Sanheim if I could. Points wise he had his best NHL season now is the time. The Flyers need to get out from under his contract. I think Farabee is as good as gone, and with the cap going up his contract is not so much of a hinderance. Frost too. But yes, it would be a hockey trade, not a dump. - jd250

What I don't understand and probably will never understand ia how the Flyers can play last night's game with Zamula, Attard and Ginning not playing. Win or lose down the stretch here, I thought the purpose of this year was to evaluate the young players, especially in games that mean something? Last night was the last meaningful game the Flyers will play this season, and three of their potential future players were not playing. And it's not like playing veterans gives this team a better chance to win. Staal and Johnson are cooked, their well-done, they are beyond basting. And honestly, we know what Sanheim is, or Seeler, they could sit a game. It just makes no sense. It's a lost opportunity. At this point, the Flyers should send Ginning and Attard back down to LHV to help the Phantoms get into the playoffs so at least they can get that experience. - jd250
The hands-down Jack Adams award-winning coach of the Flyers lied to everyone when he said we are going to play the kids. you ate up his words like a fat kid at an all you can eat ice cream buffett.

When they had Giroux they had very little to no depth. Now they have relatively good depth and no Giroux level player(s). They finished 6th, 8th, 7th and are currently 6th in the Metro over the last four years.
Doesn't the lack of an overall talented roster trump the perceived effort level? - mickel25
I would argue they had equal or better depth with G and Jake. Had G, Schenn and Couts as centers, that is way deeper than we are now.

I'm going to spell it out and reiterate what I've been saying all season and last season. For those who are still buying the nonsense of culture and fixing the room. That's all bullpoop. Not that that those issues don't have any value but that's not how you build a legit contending team. You acquire high level talent. Coach them properly with the correct strategies and systems. Find the right mix of types of players. With issues such as RH, LH on defense. Role players, elite players, PK players. Playmakers, shooters, forecheckers etc. and the room takes care of itself. If you prioritize culture, standard and fixing the locker room first. You're just selling a bunch of goods that a gullible Flyers fan base will buy. That's why they hired Tortorella. He is old school and still believes things like culture and fixing the room are what matter the most. On top of all the other issues involved that come with Tortorella. They have a POHO that believes in the same BS. Everyone needs to remember that with the absurd triumvirate that the Flyers installed. No serious outside candidate was willing to take the job without full control. That's how they wound up with Jones. The teams color analyst with zero experience in running a team. If you can't get a serious professional. Might as well hire someone who thinks like you do. Briere was brought up and mentored in a dysfunctional franchise. I see no evidence to this point that he is any different.
The only culture that needs fixing is the deep embedded one inside this franchise. That is what has to change and they have to move into the modern NHL and focus on talent, skill and speed. Stop trying to win now. You can't and doing so only holds the team back. If that doesn't change. Nothing else is going to matter. I said the teams "success" was a mirage and it was only a matter of time until reality surfaces. - MJL
So, after only 1 year, you want Hilferty to fire Jones and replace him with a proven and seasoned executive from outside the organization with complete power over all hockey operations?

This collapse is way too late. If this had happened earlier in the season, rp and seeler would not have been extended, it is possible that tk and laughton would be gone as well.

The style the Flyers play is the style they HAVE TO PLAY in order to compete, because as we all know the Flyers do not have high end talent. Look in their last 7 games before last night, the Fyers generated 85 High Danger Chances, but only scored 3 goals, that's a 3% conversion rate. This points to the lack of high end talent and thus the ability to finish. It does not in ANY WAY point to the style of play under Tortorella as a problem, in fact it highlights that his way actually WORKS!! - jd250
You're wrong. They don't have to play that style at all. Stop prioritizing competing and instead play a more modern and updated style of play. Let your player learn to play that way and develop. That may lead to a lower win rate and guess what comes with that? A higher pick and a better chance at elite talent. His way works all right, I can tell. Guy has taken one team past the second round of the playoffs in 20 years. I think your standard of what WORKS is badly flawed.

In this instance, you are 100% correct. Torts did state many times he was going to play the kids and yet Johnson has played almost every game since he came to the Flyers at the deadline. |

Schenn did not get to play center with the Flyers. At least not regularly. Also, the last few years here G played wing. So they basically had Couts as the number 1 center and Giroux took a ton of draws. After Couts it was a bunch Pierre-Edouard Bellemares and VLC's.

And it's only year 1 of the rebuild. This has been an epic collapse and I'm sure this will play into player evaluations; I mean it has to when you lose 6-2 and 9-3 in back to back games against bottom dwellers. But through this entire year, Briere and Jones have no wavered in their opinion of this team, that they are not close to a contending team. I for one am looking forward to the off-season, because I think many moves will be made. - jd250
Just because they say it does not make it true.
If the team was rebuilding they would not have re-signed seeler. They would have traded tk, rp, gh, sl for assets at the deadline. They would not have traded for the corpse of ej.
The President of hockey operations even admitted that they weren't rebuilding - rube like you toe the company line all day tho |

they sold 1 pending UFA. that is not an indication of a rebuild. - hello it's me 2050
They sold 1 pending UFA that they tried to sign first. Walker's still here if he wanted to be here and brought in 2 more for their playoff experience. There's no need to bring in players for their playoff experience on a rebuilding team.
Some people just want to believe.
https://www.inquirer.com/...is-gurianov-20240308.html
“What we’re looking for from Erik is to bring his experience,” general manager Danny Brière said in his post-deadline media availability. “The fact that he’s played for a long time. The fact that he’s played a lot of playoff games... "
on Gurianov :
Brière said. “The fact that he’s had some success in some big games. He’s had a pretty interesting playoff run a few years ago. |

Yes, but you constantly bash the GM, and POHO, so I think it's a fair question to ask how you would do anything different. In the end, I am not surprised by the response. - jd250

tired of hearing about high scoring chances. bottom line is the team just isnt very good. some solid players is all. something every team has.
there is not 1 player on the current roster where you need to say I want to build around him. they have maybe 2 core players tops. - hello it's me 2050
They should have done more this year.
If you were offered a first for Laughton he should have been gone.
Seeler should have been moved at the deadline.
Konecny needs to be moved
You need to be willing to listen on everyone outside of Michkov, because you don't have any elite talent. You have some good players but nothing as the top of spear right now.

I think a large percentage of the fanbase is confused and torn as to whether they want a rebuild or not.
All year, Torts/Danny B/Jonesy have been saying this is a rebuild and they were sellers at the deadline to reinforce that stance.
Now people are mad at them for trading Walker (which was absolutely the right move, especially if this team is years away, which according to the Michkov timeline they are) and yelling about the team missing the playoffs.
I think everyone needs to realize the Flyers playoff push was less about how good of a team they are/were and more about how goddamn awful the Devils, Red Wings, Isles, Pens, and Caps were this year. - lindros's lung
The sold Walker and that was it. They then signed a 6th dman for 4 years. Please...

Please explain to me your definition of the "modern and updated style of play". I know you think I am clueless, but I thought the purpose of the game was to score more goals than your opponent, and to do that your team needs to generate more scoring chances than they give up. Seems to me the Flyers are doing this. They just can't finish because they have a serious gap in talent. But, again I'm clueless, so please tell me what the modern and updated style of play is in the NHL. I presume that blocking shots in not part of the modern game, right? |

That's right .. Torts not playing them down the stretch, no way they get a playoff game. He will lean on those proven and chiseled veterans for sure. When I was young my father thought he was teaching me carpentry by making me watch him and handing him tools when he asked for them. I learned nothing that way. |

I do love G for sure. My issue is with the Flyers as an org. though. They never effectively built around him. AFter 2011 they had G, Coots and Schenn. That should have been a very good top 3 center group. Instead they never developed Schenn as a center and forced Couturier to be a defensive specialist. All the while they drafted and developed very poorly.
They also could have traded Giroux and blew it up. They did neither. It's the same thing they are doing now they are just further behind now than they were then.
The org is the same despite the perceived tighter locker room or enhanced effort levels. This org refuses to be patient and rebuild.
