My uninitiated, unsubstantiated thoughts on next steps:
Berube as HC to get every player's head out of their a$$es
Get Peca back as an Asst or Assoc HC - NOT HC. Too soon.
Promote Appert to same for a sense of continuity between winning in Roch and moving that attitude to Sabres
Add 4th Assoc or Asst coach for the defense to help with their grit
Just thoughts |

Lindy Ruff seems like a possibility given the timing and connections to Buffalo, Adams and Pegula.

I don't see it. I'm not even sure Lindy would want the job. |

I agree, although there were plenty of times where he would get a penalty that a vet wouldn’t, and that happens frequently in the NHL. Buddy buddy with the refs will grow. I want him to keep the feisty attitude, that can’t leave. - SDSabre
Yup. Man Rayzor nailed it last night on the broadcast talking about the play when Benson stripped the Lightning player and had a great chance right on the door step. Got pushed around by the Lightning players after the whistle because Benson made them look stupid. |

As long as Peca is under contract I don't think Buffalo can go after him. The rangers would have to give permission and I dont see it happening for a lateral move. |

That is why I put him as an Associate Coach or whatever title that would be a promotion. I do not know if that is possible but throwing it out there. |

I believe I read somewhere that Peca wants a head coaching job. |

Marty talking about Brind'Amour. Brought up the fact that he is out of a contract next season. LOL! Wonder what that's like. To have a coach finish out his contract before granting him a multiyear extension just to fire him before it even kicks in. |

I’m not saying anything is 100% going to happen here.
But…
I’d really start to warm up to the idea of Appert. The firings and early shakeups of roles and who is currently remaining on the staff are some strong signs.

Also the smoke that I’ve heard of the last week or so that I wrote about and Marek not accidentally dropping the note about Appert in the last few days. |

And he should also recognize that one year does not make your head coaching material. I would put him into a succession plan.
Just a wish list. |

I'm not disagreeing with your post, I would love to have Peca back. Maybe hire Ruff for a few years so that he can hit 1k wins and have Peca as his successor? I still think they hire Appert. |

You could say that about every coaching candidate but at least Lindy is familiar with Pegula.
Can't see Lindy turning it down if it was offered to him. |

I think the Sabres lack of snarl in the top 6 is their biggest issue. I don't think you can bring in one guy to the bottom 6 and rely on him to handle all of the dirty work. There needs to be at least 2 guys to change the attitude of the entire team. The way I see it they have to trade one of Tage, Quinn, Peterka, Tuch, Cozens or Benson for a guy that might not be as offensively gifted, but plays with a more of a mean streak. Plus one or two difficult to play against guys in the bottom 6. If the top 6 remains the same, i don't think much will change next year. I guess Cozens is the one I would least want to see go because I think he is the toughest of them all, but man he had a poopty season this year and it looked like it was poopty because of his lack of effort and hustle, which two seasons ago I would never think that would be questioned. - Hatboro_Swords
Why do they have to trade any of the 6 you mentioned in order to bring in 2 or even 3 players that play hard and are a nightmare to play against?
I'd keep all of the above, and use the large array of prospects plus picks to bring 2 or even 3 forwards that have the style of play the team is lacking for the top 9.
Nothing wrong with having any of the 6 you mentioned moved down a line or two.
Just means the team is much deeper. |

Rasmus Dahlin to me last night, “Everyone needs to have the best summer of their career. We’ve got to make sure we work our asses off during the summer. … We can’t be in this situation again.”
Sabres players know this is on them as well: - sabresfan69

This Appert talk is nuts. Putting him on a pedestal. For what? What's he ever won? Here's what Jon Cooper did per Wikipedia:
In 2010, Cooper was hired by the Tampa Bay Lightning to coach the Norfolk Admirals, the team's American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate. During the 2011–12 season, the Admirals won the Calder Cup as the AHL's champions.[10] The Admirals also set a North American professional sports record for the longest regular season winning streak at 28 games in a row. [11][12] Additionally, Cooper won the 2012 Louis A. R. Pieri Memorial Award as the AHL's most outstanding head coach.[5]
For the 2012–13 season, Cooper became the head coach of the Syracuse Crunch after the Lightning changed their AHL affiliation.[13] In 65 games with the Crunch, Cooper led the team to a 39–18–3–5 record, the best in the AHL at the time of his promotion.

If Tage isn’t going to be that guy, his value will never be higher. Offense is a top 10 center in the league, rest of his game and attitude (if the above is true) has him a lot lower.
Interesting to hear Tuch, Dahlin, and Cozens didn’t want to step up. Guess the fans wanting an actual winning team is asking too much - SDSabre
I've been saying for months the true leader of this club is not on the roster yet.
If Gerbe heard/saw what Benson and Quinn did then Adams must have as well... Will he doing anything that the roster is signaling to him? Remains to be seen, but probably not.
Put Tage on the market

I think it was due to a mix of things. And it really started with him getting pounded to a pulp. His start to the year wasnt bad by any means. Fought hathaway and was shell of the player we saw up until that point. He was played lower and less with Mitts doing well and didnt have chemistry with other players he had with Quinn. Also only 23 and his 3rd year so some up and downs are to be expected.
edit, 4th year.
Last night should do him good getting that confidence and chemistry back right before the offseaosn. |
