A tale of two elite talents :
Ducherov climbs over the boards and you pay closer attention to that shift, because something sublime could happen. Odds are, it won't happen every time, but you might see something special. He will dipsy doodle through the neutral zone, deke a guy at the blue line, gain entry, lose the puck, then steal it back, float around drawing a double team, then do a no-look backhand pass through traffic to the open man for a goal. Or, he coughs up the puck at the opposing blue line, gives away an oddman rush the other way, and the goalie has to bail him out.
Matthews climbs over the boards and you pay closer attention to that shift, because you know the red light could come on at any time. He has moves, but they're almost never flashy or telegraphed. He's a precision operative, like an experienced cardiac surgeon. The stakes are always high, but he's always cool, calm, and collected. As the play develops, you often don't notice him. He finds an open spot in the slot, and the puck is suddenly in the back of the net. He gets an inch of daylight inside the circles, and boom it's in the back of the net. He'll take a screen if you got it, but he doesn't need it. And every time he dents the twine, he looks almost bored doing it, like Neo in the matrix.
Guys like those two make this sport worth watching, whether it's a meaningless game or game seven of the finals.

McDavid - Magically appears on the ice and is open and you see him 20 feet in front of you, you blink, he's inside your thighs *blink* he has your wife in an embrace, *blink*, your son looks an awful lot like Connor *blink* he has scored an end to end goal and deked the entire team and also got a secondary assist on it.

I get more of a kick out Matthews' crazy stick lifts and takeaways in a crowd of sticks or from behind on a backcheck.

If a team A clinches the playoffs 2 weeks before the actual playoffs and rests all of it's players then team B makes it in the playoffs on the last game of the season, isn't that an unfair proposition for playoff hockey?
And then doesn't it also skew the results of all the final weeks of the games if teams aren't dressing their best players, for example Team A has players "resting" against Washington but not against Detroit, so then that favors Washington?!?!
I kinda think no team should get to "rest" any player. Play the (frank)ing season.
Also if a player is on LTIR all (frank)ing year, they shouldn't be allowed to play in the playoffs. Cap should be in season and playoffs.
If parity is what the league wants, don't those two things conflict with that very proposition?
Matthews, at the very least, should try to get 70. A couple more games will not wear him down from the inevitable early exit.
The Leafs will win or they won't base on the team make-up, not Matthews getting two days off to party with the Biebs.
Hate the dumb loop holes in the NHL.
Refs should be able to be reviewed and suspended too. FWIW.

I think it's as simple as you need to be off of LTIR and on the active roster, even if only on IR, in game 82 to qualify for the playoffs.

Agreed. Your Cap compliant in-season team is the team that plays in the playoffs with IR and LTIR rules extending into the playoffs, in case of injury in the playoffs. |

The problem is that if guys get legitimately injured in the playoffs, teams need the ability to add new guys to the roster.
I like the simple idea that your lineup needs to be under the cap. Sure, it's not perfect, as you only dress 20 guys, but it's better than allowing teams to play games $18M over the cap. |

What about only AHL Players then? You can add a player in event of injury but itβs only a guy signed to a 2way contract?

No, its not bad for the league and doesnt skew anything.. You are always gonna have good reg teams clinch a playoff spot before average reg season teams.
Also, if a team rest a player here or there it wont have a big impact on reaults. No team is resting players for weeks at a time.
If matthews or any other player isnt a 100%, then yes resting a game would greatly help them in the playoffs.
We are at least 2 years away from any loophole being fix.....if they want to fix them at all

And he's running the London Marathon this upcoming Sunday.
Weirdly, his 5th Avenue Mile time is horrendous.
