He is a 7th round pick that will be 23 soon. Are we really that upset if he does not sign? - mickel25
doesn't matter. a productive collage player spurning you, when you have a clear lack of talent in the system is not good look. Not sure why that is hard to accept.
where he was drafted is meaningless. |

not a good look either way especially seeing how inept the flyers have been lately. - hello it's me 2050
Disagree.
If they had drafted him, marketed him as the future, and then he bolted (like Cutter) then maybe you'd have a point.
But we're talking about a guy who was basically the bag of pucks in a trade for David Kase/TDA. If he signs it's gravy. If he doesn't at least they can say they tried. |

I do not view him a difference maker in the NHL. He spurned the Hurricanes too. I will not lose sleep if he decides not to sign. I think the Flyers have plenty of non difference makers already in the system.

not comparing him to cutter in any way. The fact is the flyers have held his right for an entire season.
He was one of the top scorers in college hockey in PPG and total points. He may walk. that is a terrible look. |

do not care if he is a diff maker at the nhl level. the spin amazes me.
there is a great opportunity on the flyers has they lack centers and lack talent. why pass that up would make you wonder.

I'm not. If he signs great, but he is at best a bottom 6, at worst a 4th line /AHL tweener. - MBFlyerfan

I think most people will differentiate between a guy like Will Smith who scored a ton of points as an 18-yo and a guy like Rizz who is 5-years older playing against the same age group. It's just not as impressive and means a whole lot less. |

Agreed. He most likely will be a tweener. Not going to lose sleep over him not signing and not blaming the Flyers on this one. When traded it clearly looked like he had other plans anyway.

No spin. That is how I have always felt about him. If we find out that he always had a specific team in mind will that change your mind?
If he signs with another team and puts up points at a third line level for a full season at any point of his career I will print a retraction. |

I am interested in the trajectory of McDonald. AHL lifer or LHD 3rd pair Dman at the NHL with size. |

Looks like expansion really is coming back sooner than later. Arizona appears to be doing what the Browns did.
The team could be shipped to Utah, but the name and illustrious record would remain in AZ. Then, the owner selling the team would get dibs upon re-entry in a few years whilst he gets a new complex built.
Therefore the expansion team is technically the team in Salt Lake, and the Coyotes could resume after a pause.
This is what happened with the Ravens. We think of them as the old Browns, but they aren’t. Players and coaches moved, yes, but the Ravens were labeled as an expansion. Then when the Browns came back we just smoothed it all over like nothing happened.
Sounds like the same thing could be happening here.
And this is a wonderful idea, because I’m sure in 2028 or 9, Phoenix will be much more receptive to having hockey. Obviously, right? Of course. |

Wonder if he can even manage to become the #1 McDonald/MacDonald in franchise history.

Gut feeling for the offseason:
1) Big (over) signing of a UFA?
2) Big trade involving multiple players/assets?
3) Business as usual, some minor signings, but basically same team? |

My gut says there is a heavy focus on the draft but that #3 is going to be the case. We have too much dead cap weight to pull off anything sensational.
If #1 happens I'll want to smack them. And #2 takes two to tango. I just don't know that we have enough to trade away that makes sense without gutting us, and it's obvious they don't want to do that. |

Not spin, this is your schtick. Every player that doesn't sign here is spurning the flyers according to you. You've been doing it for years Rinaldo to try and get a rise out of people. If a player that was thrown in for Tony D does sign here great, but he's no game changer and you know it. He was thrown into the trade twice.

Option 2. UFA market is slim pickings. First time in years the cap has gone up. Doubt teams like OTT and BUF stand pat. EDM fails to win the Cup, what do they do? Draisaitl UFA next summer. CAR has been close for years. Plenty of fringe playoff teama like the Flyers, STL and DET looking to improve. Basically, I see a lot of teams willing to make deals for various reasons.

The carnival barker who is somehow the POHO of a major nhl franchise loves him. Flyers will squeeze him into the nhl come hell or high water.

Jones and Tortorella have a serious bromance happening and should greatly concern any serious Flyers fan. Co GM Danny Briere just riding the wave as far as his online masters cert can take him. |

Depending on how the Flyers season ends I can absolutely see them making moves and signing players to take a “step forward.” They won’t take a step back. TK 8 year extension incoming. No Laughton trade unless significant overpay.
I’m thinking at least a D man is brought in. |
