So if we're comparing this drought to the Bills' drought, have we reached the Marv Levy stage?
- buffalofan19

I don't know, what I do know is Terry needs to pay just a little more to have the game broadcast extended to include the post game Coaches comments. Those were the best part of the game with Lindy.
"Well Jeff knows what he needs to do to get off the fourth line, if he doesn't, perhaps he'll see why when viewing games from the Press Box. We have talked about standards, practiced them and reinforced them through video sessions...stealing $9m just isn't acceptable...Terry's basically cheap."

When that all went down, Ralph Wilson was scared of anybody who made him "uncomfortable". We're seeing the same thing with this ownership.

Tbf, Marv was also 85 years old when they did that

If you take away that Lindy previously coached here. He would still be the right coach for the job

I don't hate the hire on its surface, but underneath, it just confirms everything we knew about the people running the show. Adams is hockey's version of Ted Cruz when it comes conservative hockey operations, but at least being able to sell Terry Pegula on a Gallant or Berube type of hire would have signaled that this was his team. Instead, he went and hired the guy he knew the owner would 100% back.
- buffalofan19

Even his co-workers hate him?

I meant that mainly to be snarky, but there are patterns that concern me.

Taco's right. All that matters is if it works. However, just about every decision this franchise has made in the past decade has been the wrong one, and usually going the "safe" route doesn't dig you out of a hole.

I'm OK with it as I just want this coach, now Lindy to take the team to the next level...qualify, incrementally improve to win a series, then 2 over the next 3 seasons. The next coach after that can elevate the team to the finals and win.
Yes, I know it isn't always linear progression, but I think they need to become a regular PO team, then break through.

I can't wait for Lindy calling these guys out...those on the team who suggested they "give it to the fans" will need a blanket and a binkie with him.

Lindy's 64 years old, now. I'm guessing age has slowed him down a bit. Not saying he won't demand accountability, but I'm not expecting the same yeller and screamer either.

I hope that isn't true.
I'm 66-1/2 and my nature hasn't changed much..not that I'm nasty, unless provoked, but I tell it like it is, if you can't accept it, welp that is your problem and unfortunately maybe you need to hear it.

I wouldn't automatically dismiss it do to age...maybe experience has taught him these young guys are soft mentally and need a different approach...that I can buy.

Call it what you want. I'm guessing there will be a noticeable difference in demeanors between these two terms.

Lindy has proven he can be the HC of a competitive team. He has adjusted over the years with different teams. I used to think he was a killer of offensive players, but those teams after the lockout were skilled and offensively gifted and his system enabled them to be dynamic. Yet, he still required accountability on the backend.

I hope he can replicate that... I used to love watching the multiple levels of attack in the O-zone...the setup to the trailer was amazing...Dahlin and Byram should excel in the system...Power should take the next step.

Replace the Sabres coaching with another team and then add in the rest of his head coaching resume.

It was the right hire.

Last years Sabres were Devils lite.

Now we have the guy who was the architect of that.

I was hoping for Lindy or Berube. We got one of them so I’m happy.

You'd have to think so. Donnie had a lot of control over him, Lindy will have even more.

It's safe move in a sense, but puts the pressure firmly on Kev.

This is a get butts back in seats hire.

Cant help but think that Pegula has alterior motives to hiring Ruff outside of “good coach”

Edit - people already saying “cant wait to get tickets for the home opener”

Why Donnie didn't get to hire his own full staff. It's the safe EASY move for Adams or Pegula more likely.

One can dream but a lateral move to a group of losers is more like a step back.

Although if the PP turns around while he's here and the team takes the next step maybe it looks better on his resume vs. riding rags coattails

- JCSabs06

It's not a lateral move if Peca is brought in as the associate head coach.

He's an assistant coach with the Rangers.
