Gettin' a read on Keefe.

After 34 gives us the lead. Marner, Kampf, Eddie and McCabe barely left the ice. Those are the guys he trusts most to defend.

Boosh didn't play the last 6-7 mins. Brodie sighting?

If anything… and by anything I mean a big anything… cut out Holmberg and replace him with Dewar (he played C for Minnesota). Drop Knies back down to the 4th line winger job and toss McMann back on JT’s wing.

That’s about all I can see being done if anything.

- Dozzer

I actually don't mind that at all. Holmberg has been rough at times but passable, Knies has been getting endlessly blown the (frank) up.

I trust Dewar more than Holmberg defensively and he's doing a good job finding pucks and creating plays. Knies getting more sheltered minutes seems logical too.

Boosh probably wearing the bench for taking that penalty late. Someone's gonna take the heat for it and Keefe isn't gonna sit Bertuzzi

Bringing Brodie back in and pairing him in big minutes with Rielly would be quite counter productive. Boosh can at least be not a glaring liability every time he touches the ice in that spot.

Yeah pretty much how I’m seeing it… however I will give Knies the credit for some nice working getting the puck out of the defensive zone as well tonight. Couple that with giving Kampf wingers as big as Knies and Reaves they’d be tough as hell for Boston to run over.

I mean you could probably say that about most playoff games. We'll win 3-2 if "a bunch of hockey cliches".

Takes some pressure off of Knies. Instead of being expected to make plays with the big boys, just run around on fewer minutes, forecheck hard and don't make mistakes. Lower the bar a bit and find your game.

Basically both teams are going with a pair of 5v5 matchups ..

Mathews line plus Rielly and Boosh vs. Coyle line plus Lindholm and Carlo
and
JT's line plus Benoit and McCabe vs. Pasta's line plus McAvoy and Grizzlychick
the rest is all scrubs v. scrubs.

If 88's back, and healthy, I think I put him with JT and MM and see if you can shut Pasta down by making him play in his own zone more.

Yeah…smart but simple.. he did well there before and his physical game showed better too.

Him down on that line would mean Boston has to either get out of their defensive zone by overpowering him or Reaves (good luck with that) or outsmarting Kampf who gets to play without any physical concern because of who his wingers are (good luck with that as well).

I won’t pretend to know for sure one way or another, just saying I wouldn’t mind this.

I don't disagree with this but also, I find quite often in these types of series the higher end lines end up dead locked to a degree and whoever wins the bottom six battle can make the series. We saw that vs Tampa a couple times.

I've long been of the variety that says having that third line to tip the scales counts, I like spreading the higher end guys out across three lines for that reason. I preferred Tavares at 3C but we don't have the centre depth to work with that.

He was fine. Canes had a couple horrid breakdowns in the first period, turned around and allowed only 11 shot attempts against the rest of the game while poring on 82 of their own.

It was a massacre, despite how the score looks.

Hard game and good win for the Leafs. Very unexpected to me. Hope it loosens them up a little bit more cuz they looked good tonight.

Really nice to see some balls to their game too. If they were a bit better at the dirty/gritty game = less penalties .......and MOAR WINS!!!

Sammy did gooooodddd!

PS....Anyone want Hyman back at his price and have a extra $6M for D/G or hold on to both Willy and Marner still?

Totally agree with what both of you are saying. Seems like it would be the perfect line up to me too.

Knies looked really good on the 4th line before the playoffs ...and scored if I remember correctly.

Unfortunately, Fck Keefe.

I like Hyman but McDavid raises these guys up to stupid levels that will never happen again without him.

They looked good last game too. Just didn't get the bounces and took some bad penalties.

Not sure why it's unexpected though but a win is a win I guess

He wouldn’t be and wasn’t the same on Leafs. Leafs don’t have a passer like McJesus. Closest are Willy/Mitch and they are not close to his level. He may be 30-35 scorer on leafs.
