Full NMC and maybe wait until next offseason when he is a UFA. He either retires or plays on and perhaps is open to leading another team. I doubt it though.
What would it take to trade for him? - IonSabres
1 year to UFA:
I know it won't happen but I would trade Levi/Rosen +
>>> Luukkonen is the big RFA of the summer. Coming off a career season, the Sabres will likely try to lock him up for a few years. I used the contract the Minnesota Wild gave Jonas Gustavsson last year as the blueprint. He was re-signed to a three-year deal with a $3.75 million cap hit.
I went to $4 million for UPL with the salary cap going up and Ivan Fedotov getting a two-year deal with a $3.25 million annual average value from the Philadelphia Flyers yesterday.
>>> Trade 1: Sabres acquire William Karlsson from the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for Matt Savoie and a 2024 second-round pick
>>> Trade 2: Sabres acquire a 2024 second-round pick (via Florida Panthers) from the Utah Hockey Club in exchange for Henri Jokiharju
>>> Free Agents
I finished filling out the roster signing two free agents.
Tyler Toffoli – two years, $7 million AAV
>>> Erik Gustafsson – one year, $1.5 million
Gustafsson is the cheap move to fill out the defense group. This is the type of move that the Sabres analytics department could hang their on hat on as an under-the-radar addition. Gustafsson has had strong underlying numbers the last few years playing for a few teams.

For the Penguins to accept?
2024, 25 1st, Savoie, Kulich, Ostlund
This kicks off their delayed rebuild, and without Crosby they'll want to sell the rest of them.
It would need to be a massive over pay, and then he'll need to want to go to Buffalo. Or anywhere else for that matter.

No, you're not.
Is Karlsson good enough and fills the need at 3C that he's worth trading Savoie for?
Can they get him for less? - kingcong39
I was thinking the same. I'm not the biggest Savoie fan anymore, but think we can do better for him +. Karlsson has bounced back from his 2021-22 campaign that was dreadful, but I don't think he's worth that.
Am I wrong in thinking Chandler is the best deal there by far? - QuinnFan
🚨Our final contract projections will be released mid to late May this offseason!🚨
The most recent extension projections can be referenced, but keep in mind that those projections do not take into account the last half of the season & will change in our final offseason release!

Chad's thought was yes it would be an overpayment, but don't (frank) around.
If you think Karlsson is the answer, make sure you get him.
