My wild yet edumacated guess is that when Treliving made his "hire me" pitch, he told the Board of Directors that this was not a 1-2 fix, and his big moves would start as soon as the Tavares deal was done.

I think Marner is overpaid and Willy is about to be for sure but Marner even at 10 to me would have been an overpay by 1M. I think he should have got 9M per so to me he's been overpaid by 1.9M each year.

I also think the gap in salary between Matthews and MM or WN should be much bigger than it is.

Scoring should get paid more, agreed. But Matthews has only gotten about 5 -10pts more during a season than marner and add marner only gotten 10m, the differential between the two would have been greater.

Two complaints about last nights broadcast.

First: McClean and Hrudy coddling poor Mitchy……..he’s trying…..he really takes it to heart…..he’s helping in so many ways, blah blah blah. Well he doesn’t take it to heart when he’s asking for $11mil a year! You want the money, get the results. He’s not a kid he’s a grown man who demands premium money, earn it. That’s how it works in the real world.

Second: what the Frank is McClean doing telling Debrusk to go out and get a goal!! Who owns the Leafs, the network, pays McCleans salary!? Are they not Canadian. You would never see a Leaf being interviewed in Boston by a local network and being told to……go gettem tiger. Maclean should be shown the door, and it should hit him in the ass in the way out.

He’s not asking for $11 mill, he already gets it. $10,906,000 a year for him til the next contract. Except right now… each player on the team will get about $8900 for the series if they don’t win it. Doubles up if they get to the next round.

Scoring is part of it, a centre vs a winger is the other.

For me points isn't necessarily the best comparator - how many points has winger X got due to centre Y potting 50, 60 or 69 goals?

In hindsight perhaps Dubas did screw up the salaries on all of the big stars but in his defense to some degree (yes maybe he set the bar too high) the salaries were given in anticipation of a growing cap but then the Leafs really got (frank)ed by Covid.

Saw him twice. Once with The Band in the mid ‘70s and again 6 years ago when he played before The Stones in a 3 day festival with Neil, Paul McCartney, Roger Watters and The Who.

Agree, and I'll give Tree a pass for last summer b/c the blueline UFA's were total poop. This summer is (so far) a bit better.

Was at game with my boys - barn was very loud at points throughout game. Joe Bowen is correct. The fans that are there all embody the Toronto attitude - give us something and we will cheer or make us happy. Even folks who drive in for the game absorb it…but make no mistake it was unreal loud at times no doubt. This was first time in 300’s. The other 5 games this year were lower bowl so that could be it too…lower bowl regular season is super timid and quiet.

I agree and disagree about this fan approach. Makes sense though after years of disappointment.

Marner with an unreal pass on Knies goal - he was before and after terrible. Coughing up pucks all night, forcing plays at offensive blue line causing turnovers the other way, guess n passing, and my god being soft and pulling up (Willy style) all night. Lost Marchand off the wall on the goal, fell about 6 times by himself. He is not built for playoff puck. In our section at least fans were all over him for the giveaways and being soft….also chirping Willy as soft for not playing ( for what that’s worth).

Lily is just that. Get him out of lineup. What the hell Mo? Where did he go man. Just slow in skating and reaction time.

Refs were terrible. Leafs got away with 3 non calls and Bruins about 8 and 2 were costly.

Auston looks to have issue. Stretching out on bench and tv timeouts - looked a bit slow but as always solid…just needs to put one in the net though.

Sammy solid except Frederick goal.

Saw him at the Ex in 1988 (give or take a year).

He was with Tom Petty.

They were both wasted - worst show I've ever seen in my life.

Oh wow… you just amplified my jealousy… especially with the band… they’re one of my favourites big time
