If my memory is correct, teams in the NHL have not traded out of the top 10, in like 20 years. Just doesn’t happen. It’s not the NFL. |

They are far and few ….but Debrinkat was traded to Ottawa in 2022, for the 7th over all…and I believe a 2nd rounder as well….tough to remember many more. |

It is a miss but how can you blame Hextall? He was widely considered a top pick in the draft and a future #1 NHL center. It's hindsight to say he should've taken Makar. Sakic was pissed when the guy he wanted got taken and he had to settle for Makar. Patrick and his physical and mental issues were simply bad luck. Its not as if he made a horrendous choice at the time or used bad judgement. - MJL
Patrick was damaged goods before the draft. Also, if true, ignoring your entire scouting staff because you know better, is not a good look. |

That's not true. He was not damaged goods. There was no consensus on one player with the scouts. A GM's job is not to just do what the scouts tell him to do. He is the decision maker. With the information available at the time, Hextall made the right pick in my opinion.

He did have some injury issues for sure. But the Flyers judged the injuries were not serious enough to factor in to their decision. Some of the scouts did in fact want NP…the majority thought the Flyers should go D but even that was split between the two. Obviously it was not the right pick as the 3 guys drafted after him are all star players. NP was simply a bust. |

Set consensus and all that aside...
The Flyers had just taken Provy 7th-overall and he had jumped in right away as a #1 guy. Ghost had just turned in two great seasons to open his career and was poised to drop 65-points in 2017. Sanheim and Hagg were considered ready for full-time jobs. Morin, taken 11th, was still healthy at the time and everybody thought he'd make the jump sooner or later. Myers was ripping up the Q, was considered one of the best d prospects not in the NHL, and he was about to go pro. Friedman had just signed his ELC.
Nobody thought the Flyers needed to add any more D prospects at the time -- everybody thought they were completely set on the blueline.
Meanwhile G was nearing 30 and coming off a down year. Coots' offense was languishing in the bottom-six. Schenn was a perennial disappointment. All signs pointed to the Flyers needing future help down the middle and NP was hyped as having an elite 1C ceiling by some pre-draft.
If Hexy did indeed override anybody in the room he had a million and one reasons to. 99.9% of the fans would have done the same. Bob Clarke would have done the same. There probably wasn't a GM in the league outside of Poile who would have taken another defenseman with that pick. - Tomahawk
Everything you said is 100% true. In fact, it is how a person would rationalize picking Patrick, but he was damaged goods. The move was to trade down if you did not want another defensemen or trade one of your surplus d-men. |

The injuries Patrick had pre-draft were not a factor in any way in why he didn't work out.

He wasn't "damaged goods", he entered the draft with an injury history.
Pasta and Morgan Rielly missed significant portions of their draft seasons with major injuries and teams still took them basically where they were slated to go. It doesn't always end up like Nolan Patrick. |

The corners this year are not elite. I was very worried Howie would trade up and give up a 2nd, but Cooper DeJean (even if they chose him) +2nd is frankly more than any of the 'pure' corners. |

Embiid with 50 - THE BLACK HAND
Not a hoop guy but it’s being reported he has Bells Palsy. Hmm wonder why that happened. Maybe only take shots on the court. |

He’s saying the Covid vaccine (or maybe vaccines in general?) gave Embiid Bells Palsy. I’ve heard of Covid itself maybe causing it, but not the vaccine. But, hey, you can find proof of anything on the interwebs. Regardless that’s a poopty thing for Embiid to have to deal with especially during the playoffs. Hope it clears up quick for him. |

I should clarify. Mitchell does have elite potential. But he went to a smaller program and was apparently able to get away with some underdeveloped skills (so I read) and was destroyed by Marvin Harrison and CJ Stroud 2 years ago. But he has tremendous build, is very fast and played very well in senior bowl in NFL caliber press coverage (something he rarely did in Toledo).
He is also very durable so far and good against run. He did not have the grades to attend a big name school and get that athletic scholarship. Toledo was able to snatch him. But after he started to shine nationally, he did not transfer out and stayed loyal to Toledo to repay their initial faith. That is unusual and may translate to playing with heart for us (just like Jalen Hurts managing to excel in 2 very different big name programs may have been an indicator of his maturity).
Great pick for where they picked and because they were able to keep the 2 2nds. I am hoping they can move up in 2nd while keeping the 2nds.

Might mean that Bradberry might be on the move. Dejean is simply a football player. Fast and physical. Maybe he plays safety. |

Bradberry is likely a post June 1 cut.
Cooper DeJean is a Malcolm Jenkins clone + punt returner.
Eagles essentially got two mid first values for #22 and #40 |
