I think you are absolutely right. There are similar Dmen that came in around this value. Vlasic got a really fair contract based on his play this year. Great deal for both sides and if Vlasic can manage to grow his game and add some offense, then great bargain for the Hawks and he sets himself up for a good next contract before age 30.
I'm skeptical that Vlasic will ever have the offensive production to get him into the big money, but he is looking like a solid contributor and good piece to keep long term. Glad they signed him. - breadbag
If Vlasic tops out as a 2nd pairing shut down d-man like Hjalmarsson or Oduya its a huge win for the Hawks and they need to keep him long term.
On the back-end the Hawks have Korchinski and possibly another young d-man (i.e. D!ckinson) that can provide the offense.

If he becomes a top shutdown Dman and has Seabrook offense he will get paid very well.

For sure. Korchinski I think still has a lot of room to grow, being as young as he is, it might still be 2-3 or even 4 seasons before he really hits his stride and gets closer to his NHL ceiling. He already seems to be better defensively and less physically pushed around than say Adam Boqvist was when we brought him up. I don't think Korchinski will be a defensive liability in the long term as he keeps learning the NHL ropes. |

Like you, I don't think Vlasic's best contribution long term is going to be offensive production. But you never know what could happen if the Hawks can add some real forward juice beyond Bedard.
Viktor Hedman put up 20, 26 and 23 points total in his first 3 years in the league. And he was never with a team as horrendously bad as the Hawks were this year. Vlasic had 16 points.

That just IMO is a big IF.
I am not a pro scout, but I don't think we've seen the same level of offensive ability in Vlasic that Seabrook brought to the table. I don't think Vlasic has had the offensive numbers at any level yet to suggest he will hit that level.
I'll be happy to be wrong if he proves otherwise, but to my eyes he lands some where between Seabrook and Hjalmarsson on the offensive side.
I don't see the same instincts to join the play and find soft areas that Seabrook demonstrated and I don't see quite the same shot that Seabrook had. |

Anything is certainly possible, I just think that is the exception more than the rule and us fans have a tendency to get on the hype train and then get disappointed when it doesn't pan out.
Really glad to see him locked up and I think he will be a good player. I'm just in the cautiously optimistic department on his offense because we haven't ever seen much offensive from him to date. I'm glad we didn't pay him something insane putting too much expectation on him. |

Wow I hope we are able to trade up (Blackhawks) and I would guess Lindstrom might whet KD appetite. But if we wind up drafting a dman say with the 3 or 4 pick, does KD hope for Caton or Lindstrom to fall. Always there is at least one pick that was not expected. No one has a crystal
Ball - jhawk59
Looking at Lines.com, Wiz is only a few spots away from getting us a top 4 and Catton at the Tampa Bay pick (assuming TB is out in the first round). All that's needed is for Catton to do the Electric Teuvo Slide down to 19 or so.
I'm OK with any of those top 4 although I might lean slightly to Levshunov over Parekh. |

Great point...I'd be happy if Rinzel becomes a regular NHLer (years down the line), he's currently the team's best D option on the right side.

It's a good deal for Vlasic too. He'll be a UFA at age 28 and poised for a big payout if he continues to improve.
I am a bit surprised by the length of the contract. I don't have issue with it, but I thought KD would have gone with a 3 year bridge deal or a full 8 year deal. - DarthKane
I was thinking this as well, to me the benefit is you then get to sign him again and he won't be 38 when his contract expires.

Full terms now available.
No performance bonuses, but the last two years have M-NTC's
His contract includes a clause allowing him to submit a 10-team no-trade list in the fifth and sixth years, but he shouldn’t have to worry much about any trade possibilities regardless. |

And the contract is a bit front loaded. 6M year 1, 5.8M year 2. |

Smart little maneuver to count zero signing bonus during the year when Bedard, Nazar, and Korchinski are up for new contracts ($0 signing bonus cost in 26-27). Didn't know they could do that.

Assuming he stays glued to Jones, I'd think that would be a good thing to foster familiarity with his partner. I know what the general opinion is on Jones, but I think it can only be a good thing to not have to continually get readjusted to a new partner.

I wonder if the Hawks are contemplating selecting D!ckinson if they draft 2-4. If they don't pick #1, I still think Demidov or Eiserman is the best choice as they need to fill that goal scoring void.
However, D!ckinson would be a good balance between defense and creating offense (from the defense). He may not be my first choice, but I wouldn't be upset if the Hawks drafted D!ckinson. - DarthKane
If they don’t pick first then Lindstrom is the choice. Anyone else is a bust! |

We discuss how bad the Blackhawk TV play by play and colour guys are. Hockey lost a great one yesterday. A guy I grew up listening to Bob Cole passed away yesterday . No gimmicks, no inane comments, he didn’t try to educate, he just called the game and wasn’t afraid of dead air. |

According to Ben Pope in the Chicago Sun-Times:

So that's the first contract KD has given out that is part of the future of this team. Not bad, i like the term and price. Good start only 22 more players to go. |

His first contract and KD included a trade clause. It took five contracts before Stan handed out his first one. KFC has the bug now, he’ll be handing them out like candy. |
