There is a lot of reasons why it would be good to delay his arrival. Why do the Flyers and the NHL routinely send players to or keep players in lower level leagues if it doesn't help develop players games further?

This guy was seen as on a similar level of a Conor Bedard by many NHL scouts. You don’t seem to grasp that

There are ZERO reasons to delay his arrival. If you can get him here, you get him here. FULL STOP.

It is absolutely ridiculous to do anything else.

Tyson Foerster has had zero issue with Torts. He even had a stronger rookie season than TK’s rookie season. I don’t love everything Torts does but the idea that he’s going to clash with every player is unfounded.
- Schmojo

He has been pretty good with tippett also, considering his lack for defensive play. The piling on of torts is just that. Torts gives people enough amo without having to make things up

The moment he puts on a Flyers sweater he is the best player on the team.

Whether or not he would help offensively is academic. He would get the Tony Angelo treatment from Torts. Even if he didn't have 6 healthy defensemen Torts would rather go with 5 than play him.

that is a fair assessment.

a good coach finds a way to utilize their 50 points as a strength. especially one who has a piss poor PP

Agree, id like ghost on a 1yr deal because i think hed be an easy flip at the deadline, but think he will be riding the bench too much

tony d did put up 42 points on an offensively starved team. The coach is a just and out of touch stubborn individual.

Kinda doubt a 56-point UFA dman, who isn't a dressing room cancer, would be willing to sign a 1-year deal.

what was his market last summer? He will not get more than 2 years is my guess. Not going to be any huge market for him.

He produced once again on a non playoff team.

I disagree. While there are certainly reasons to bring him over now, there are also reasons not to.

1) Extends his ELC contract further into the Flyers rebuild if he is delayed a year
2) Delays his eligibility for free agency
3) Stops the Flyers from potentially improving quicker and getting worse draft picks.
4) Potential of keeping him away from Tortorella. Depending on how long he coaches.

Now you may not think those reasons override the reasons to get him here. They are certainly legitimate reasons not to bring him over. #3 is the biggest reason in my view. The Flyers need more than just one elite player. They were a playoff bubble team this year. They re-sign Konecny, Couturier gets healthier. Continued growth from other young players and add in an elite level talent such as Michkov and where are the Flyers drafting? They get stuck in bubble land.

Producing is producing. And not like the Wings were that bad.

Guy took less years to get with a better situation and he proved his worth:

All of that makes it more challenging to bring back soon-to-be-unrestricted free agent Shayne Gostisbehere next season. But Yzerman made it clear Friday that he plans to try.

“I’d like to see if we can figure out a way to do it,” Yzerman said. “He’s a valuable player for how we’re set up on the back end.”

Gostisbehere was Detroit’s No. 1 point man on a much-improve power play. He has 10 goals and 56 points this season.

“A different player that adds to our defensive corps,” Yzerman said. “You need to be good defenders but you also gotta have some defense that generate offense and play on the power play. He was good at that. It is something I would like to consider, strongly consider. Contract aside, it’s making all this fit. One fitting into the cap. I’m probably comfortable carrying eight defensemen.”

Maybe he doesn't even make it to UFA.

None of that matters. There are bigger things at stake that have nothing to do with hockey. In this case geopolitical factors need to be the #1 concern IMO. If you can get him here you get him here. He needs to be treated like a defector in the 70's. I would rather deal with all of your reasons as they come, over never getting him here at all.

When they were 16... things kinda changed as Bedard hit another gear or two in subsequent seasons before he was drafted.

Much of that had to do with global issues that prevented Michkov from participating in certain events. IMO
