Barzal already got his money. What are the Islanders going do, trade him to a better team?

Seriously Ses? You know how this works.

I get you want changes. Most of us do. There are limited options. If ownership doesn't bring in a new GM then, we can expect more of the same. You can howl at the moon all you like, but that's the reality of the situation.

Go protest outside of Malkin's house.

I'm not expecting the players to trash the team. A couple of it's not acceptable to lose in the 1st round again to the same team would be nice. Also not talking about puck luck would be helpful as well. They are treating the fans like we are dumb and cannot tell what a real contender looks like. I'll do my protesting by watching less games and not buying tickets.

It seems Ryan has a different definition of the word "there" than the rest of us.

I still cannot believe that comment from Ryan. Team missed the playoffs 3 years ago and only made the playoffs last year due to an epic Pens collapse and they lose in the first round and lost in the first round again to the same team this year. In what world is this team there? It's the owners, GM, and players trying to fool the fans that is the most galling. If the Islanders want a little bit of a pass, they need to retool, and the fans will most likely be supportive if they see the right things being done. You get no pass when you have a vet team and pretty much bring the same team back each year.

Not sure what everyone is getting worked up about. I thought maybe there would have been changes like associate coaches or possibly Lou was announcing his retirement. That is big which I thought was possible. I’m sure they’ll have a new assistant coach before the season starts. If I were to bet Maclean will be here still especially with his son being one of the brightest parts of this season.

Other then that if neither of the above happened I wasn’t expecting anything else. Lou never says anything about anything. From where I’m sitting now they can’t do a heck of a lot due to existing contracts and not enough salary going out. Other then trading our top producers hoping to replace them with equal or better production is unrealistic.

So what I’m saying is it’s more then likely also a mystery to them.

No excitement here. It was typical Lou.

SES as fans that is unfortunately our only recourse. It is a shame because this team will continue to be half pregnant. And we all know that you cannot be half pregnant.

Good enough to tease you, yet bad enough to not make a difference.

All Lou or some of the players had to say was just making the playoffs and losing in the 1st round is not acceptable and the fans would have been happy. Nothing more I can say about Lou coming back after this post. Lou is coming back and let's see how the draft and UFA goes. Maybe Roy has some power being a big name and can have a say in the roster. Roy has to be honest with Lou and tell him we cannot compete with the same type of roster. Lou has to understand it's not about him anymore and he is just not the future. Happens to everyone. Lou should want to leave the Islanders in the best possible position.

Lou has autonomy to do what he wants. Leave when he wants etc. Hope for the best no use getting nuts about it.

Try this...good enough to tease you...yet not consistent enough to be a contender...

I think Roy will be Lou's replacement. Benoit Desrosiers will be the next head coach in two years. If Lou is willing to work closely with Roy, he will get his on-the-job training as Head Coach and VP. Desrosiers will start taking a more prominent role in the next two years...

Isles conspiracy theory.

Haha just coming in here to drop that same article. He makes solid points about the aisles. Similar to what most on here have been saying.

I actually disagree with some of what he said other then we have to get younger, faster, and more skilled. He starts off the article saying we have “structure” and “character”. Two things the team lacked all season and into the playoffs.

Teams with structure and character don’t give up the most third period leads in NHL history. It’s a literal contradiction of exactly that.

I woke up today happy, realizing life could be much worst. I could be a Leafs fan. Since their acquisition of Tavarse, the Leafs have won one playoff series. It gives me great pleasure know that the Islanders team he walked away from has been far more successful since his departure.

And yes, I have a problem because no I cannot let it go. I do not want to see that guy win anything with the Leafs. ANYTHING!!!

Lol good point. I was referring to the player moves. I must have blanked out the positive comments.

Saying the islanders have to get younger and faster is an elementary thing. Elementary to everyone besides Lamoriello of course. Brook’s more or less said he had no idea what he was talking about in the first paragraph. Leagues worst PK and most shots allowed by any NHL team this past season also contradicts that.

I don’t dislike Roy. I think he should get a full season but I also don’t understand the heaps of accolades the fanbase is throwing at him either. The team still lacked defense, structure, and finish under him. Pretty much mirrored lamberts tenure this season. More evidence that it’s not a coaching issue but more a personnel issue.

It sounds like Larry is in love with the MM and Cal type of player, but they are clearly not the same and overall this is not a tough team mentally or physically.

I like Patrick and think he should really help, but I thought he made some strange lineup choices against a fast team that is not tough. It probably does not make a difference, but you try things against a team that owns you already. Patrick needs to push Lou on getting more speed and skill.

The lack of physicality in that series was insane. I highly doubt Roy told the team to go out there and avoid contact but for most of the series that’s exactly did. That should have been the game plan against the canes.

Jury is still out with Roy as far as I’m concerned. Not sure how anyone can give him a grade with what we saw. All of the issues with the team when lambert was coach were still there under him. There were six game losing streaks, terrible pk’s, blown leads. There wasn’t much change imo.

Team just does not have the speed to be able to hit the Canes on a consistent basis. Being a soft team does not help.

Many of us said Lane was not the biggest issue. When Barry was let go, Lou should have started the retool and hired a young promising coach. It’s too soon to get a read on Patrick. Patrick’s big job this offseason is being honest with Lou on what this team needs in terms of speed and skill.

I would keep your expectations low as far as the off-season. You are setting yourself up for disappointment. Even if Lou wanted to do a lot he can’t. There’s really no where to go with what we have on the books and what I’ll assume is a complete lack of interest from other teams with players we want to trade. He painted himself in a corner.
