If UPL is going to get say $4.5m for 4 or 5 years, what would be the harm in bridging him for 1 year at say $3.25m as a show me contract? I'd say very little.
If he goes on to play at say a .915 rate, what does that do to his contract? Up it to $5m?
Conversely, if he falters back to say .900 or below, then the Sabres are fvcked with an unmoveable contract for 5 years.
There is unnecessary risk taken by signing him long term this offseason. Is that really what they should do?
I think not either. - IonSabres
It's about as obvious as decisions get on RFA's. There just aren't many goalies making big money and it would take a Vezina to make a big $ difference.
The issue here is that KA is a player's GM and wants to make everyone happy. Agents have run over him in negotiations. They've all gotten $ or term. He set a precedent and UPL is expecting similar treatment.

Ugh, I really want to be there right now. Sitting here trying to reteach myself VBA and struggling when I should be sipping some fruity drink with a little umbrella in it.
It's a sad day for all mankind. |

Yeah, just so happens Vegas has their players return every time and trade for players on LTIR to go on a run.
These things are not the same.
(frank) Vegas. - QuinnFan
Guys like Matt Murray bother me a lot more than Stone. No one is even pretending he was hurt before he suddenly was able to play in the AHL just before the playoffs. That's season long, planned abuse. Stone had a serious injury and didn't look close to 100% returning.

Not excusing Matt Murray, just don't know the situation. However, I do hope Mark Stone gets athlete's foot of the penis and it falls off. We can call him Mark Just Stones from then on and it will be glorious. |

I don't get the Stone hate. Kucherov is the poster child for that type of abuse.

8 mill for 38pts and we are Complaining about a Guy that Averages 30 goals a Year at 9mill. Wow!
Edit- Unless it's the SJ one, he might never play again |

Stone has been out on LTIR and magically healed for game 1 in each of the last three seasons. Stone is the poster boy. Kucherov is just the innovator. |

Logan was out last year but had 67 and 56 points the previous two, why 38pts? Because that's what he'd be expected to get her as a 3C? |

I think Kucherov was 100x more egregious. Stone looked like someone who probably shouldn't have been playing. Kucherov looked healthy 2 months earlier.

Not discounting what Kucherov did, I still believe it's egregious enough to put an asterisk next to that Cup win. However, it's becoming a joke and Vegas just keeps doing it because the league doesn't have a good way of keeping teams honest. To me, Stone doing this multiple times just puts him in a league of his own but I do get why there's an argument that Kucherov was just as bad.
So I'll qualify: TB and Vegas can both go (frank) themselves. |
