Yup. He’s not leaving. Even if they low ball him at 5-6 mill or something.

Take taxes into account and he probly makes the same in buff at 8-9 mil

Tax difference is about 7%, per cap friendly.

The stadium really doesn't have much to do with it. The fact of the matter is that pro sports franchises are appreciating in value at a higher rate than we've ever seen in history. The way to see any cash out of that appreciation is to sell a minority stake. Otherwise, you're just stuck with an illiquid asset that you have no idea if it will maintain its value. The Pegulas aren't the only ones selling. Most pro sports franchises now have at least one minority owner.

Right, they also aren't quite the cash cows they are made out to be and it's easy to imagine Terry being cash strapped with the stadium overruns already adding up.

NYS taxes are high, but no where near federal.

That may be, but I would have to think pretty much any financial advisor would be in his ear to do this, even without the stadium.

That actually sounds about right.

The tax savings aren't as high as you think. Players pay tax to every state they play in (road games) and in their home state, if they're in a state that does have an income tax, they get a credit for the tax they pay to those other states that they don't get in a tax free state like Florida. You're still coming out ahead in a state like Florida, but the spread isn't as high as the difference between your state tax rate and zero.

I doubt it's the main factor, but it definitely goes on the "pro" side of the ledger.

And a bunch have sold outright, some were forced like the guy that owned the Suns and Snyder, others, like Cuban and A-Rod have done weird schemes both selling and buying respectively

Right, but my point is you wouldn't be seeing these moves if the values of these franchises weren't jumping the way they have.

It would have been interesting to see if the NFL and NBA would have acted differently to guys like Dan Snyder and the Suns and even the Clippers years back if franchise values weren't as high as they are now. The other thing about pro sports franchises is that there are a limited number of them, so demand really outweighs supply. Contrast that with something like real estate where there's a lot more to put your money into.

Agreed. Pegula is thinking I can get a cool 1.3 billion for only a certain % of the team and still control the team

It's not going to be that high, I don't think. Forbes has the Bills at $3.7 billion right now.

Think that shows the issue. They started the series earlier than everyone else because neither team was in the best of 3 first round.
