For all the Matt Ellis power play hate.

From my source. (I DMed a couple people here after the Granato firing)

Ellis is an Adams guy (yes thank you Captain obvious)

But the power play he ran was Granatos. He had no ability to change or tweak it. He was essentially following his bosses orders.

The PP woes is on Granato.

- Sabretooth9

I don't recall what the overall rank was after Granato publicly took the PP back. But it was still like mid 20s.

The entire season, the xGF% was 32nd. Sabres were 30th from October to Dec 31st. Then 27th from Jan 1 to End. I don't recall when Don stated he took the PP into his own hands but I think it was like end of Jan.

Regardless, it (frank)ing blew, and Matt Ellis still doesn't know what a PP looks like.

he was towing the company line

really not informative

Sure it was. Discussed roles and the reason behind Appert. If that's not informative to you then I can't help you.

you bashed appert to rochester because his RPI team sucked.

Appert has performed to the level of deserving an assistant role.

people around here would be butthurt as (frank) if appert split for being denied an assistant role.

let's talk about "knowing" the coaches you hire on a personal level.

Kevo and Ellis are BFFs

Donnie and Christie have known each other for 30 years.

It's a worthless anecdote. You hire qualified people and take the nepotism out of it.

never thought Lindy would be a yes man
- homiedclown

Shocking really. Assumed KA/Donnie couldn't identify or attract decent coaches and Lindy would change that. Maybe Lindy's guys didn't want anything to do with Buffalo. Think there's a chance of that. They burned the Chris Taylor bridge badly. James Patrick could be happy where he landed. Still expected at least one new guy.

I don't think so. The team has consistently underachieved in the playoffs. Jon Cooper won the Calder Cup while coaching in the AHL. The 1st round playoff exit should've been the nail in the coffin for Appert and the Sabres. I guess it was, just in the opposite way I thought it would be. He's the least of the coaches I'm concerned with. It is the rest of the bozos from last year that are being brought back. Probably cheaper and how can a coach not want to select his own coaches? Maybe Lindy knows this is his last shot at being a coach. Thats the way it looks to me.

I guess I disagree. Some of the best performing AHL coaches get looked at for HC gigs.. Sullivan, Cooper, Keefe...

Appert has been directed to ensure development is the primary objective. Last year he lost to Hershey in the semi finals. This year some of the scorers dropped the ball. They had another strong season and a disappointing 5 game playoffs.

His overall Rochester career, he's absolutely earned assistant coach. Head coach? Eh, probably not, but definitely A.

His teams play and execute the way we want our team to play. Good enough for me to earn that spot.

I expected a guy to come in for faceoffs. At least he mentioned faceoff wins as being a major focus. Why MFE is responsible for it is (frank)ing stupid.

Nothing retained on Skinner, not handcuffed to Power

Two HoF players with a change of scenery and a young, hungry supporting cast and a HoF coach to guide them, idk man…

Power (frank)ing sucks and you know it

Did they really need to promote him?
No, they did not.

Should they have at least looked around before doing so?
Yes.

And here we are.

They retain Wilford, who they finished 26 in HDCA and 27 in Med-DCA. The D refuses to clear the front of the net.

They could have done better.

I don't know what to make of the AHL. They seem to lose every year to teams with no NHL prospects. I just chalk it up to them being cheap.

“My biggest thing with Seth right now is I want him to be completely focused and locked in on Rochester,” Adams said. “They have three games left here, which are critical games, and they have, I truly believe, an opportunity to do something special in the playoffs with the talent they have on the roster. And I also know how much that’ll help our guys. But, big, big believer in Seth Appert.”

so a 30 year coach has to keep his gm's buddies as his assistant coaches

got it

what's next, telling Lindy that Kelly Pegula has to be his next goalie coach?
