I think it's becoming more common because players are choosing their destination. Don't think Buffalo is appealing to these guys for several reasons. KA has a tough job (although he's made things even tougher for himself). - Lunaion
Florida, despite being Florida, is only recently a desirable place to play (besides Okposo situation type players) if pegoola and adams and ruff get it going the right direction players will come there.

That's only one of the reasons. Is it really a shock that most of these deals involve no income tax states? Not mention anything about the cities.
Other element is teams didn't used to give players this level of control.

Tax advantage meant squat when the team sucked, though.
But, it is an advantage now
Do you know how Matthews’ contract is structured?
Mostly in signing bonuses paid to him as a resident of AZ? Idk if there’s any validity to that, I heard it on the internet.

I'm suspicious of that. Not that I know Canadian tax code.
