Another layer of stupidity if the Leafs don't hire him.
- Rare_Jewel

You think so. You are the only one.
Nobody else agrees, including the Leafs.

Stop telling people they are stupid because they disagree.

He will not be coaching in Toronto nor should he.

Stop. For the love of god.

I don’t think Shanny and Tree would have said during the year end grilling, over and over, that they are considering all possibilities, if they didn’t have something in mind, a poker in the fire. Otherwise, to threaten that so loud and clear, and then come training camp, have no changes, would look pretty bad. Gonna be an interesting summer, Tree is going to earn his money.
- Bullot

They said the exact same crap that every team in every sport says after a losing season.

They said they would review the season, review the roster, and make any necessary changes. That nothing is off the table. That they are committed to making changes so that next season the team is better, and puts them in the best position to win it all.

It's boilerplate end of year nonsense.

They may have a plan.

They may not have a plan.

But their words were meaningless.

Of course they have a plan. Whether they can enact it is the question. The "beauty" of the Shanaplan is that it maybe cannot be undone.

The contracts given with NMC to these players were ridiculous. They gave the power of the franchise over to four players. Shanahan should be fired into the sun for it, especially if they are unable to move a core piece or two.

More than any other issue, piss poor management has plagued this team since 1967.

Yup.
Apparently, had dubas signed the young core earlier he would have saved alot on their cap hit as their price wasnt as high (marner, Matthews) as what it turned out to be.

It's the NMC that are also ridiculous. Someone on here posted a list of about the 50 highest paid players in the league, and only about 2 or 3 of didn't have trade protection. However, the list did NOT show how many of those players have full NMC rather than 10 team no trade lists, etc.

Dubas and Shanahan screwed up ROYALLY on this. Kyle got absolutely owned in every one of his "negotiations".

And it may be a case where the players themselves decide to "run it back" this year rather than management. The fans will not be kind to the players in question.

Shanny is the one recommending to ownership to agree, he is 100% involved.

I looked at a bunch of comp players deals.. and it looks pretty standard.
Mac got the same NMC the entire thing.

some players get NMC and then the last 2 years a modified NTC (give list of x teams)
this seems a lot better. at least you are not totally (frank)ed

Nylander was the one contract Kyle got lucky on. The full NMC at the end was still idiotic. When the contract was finished, the general take on it was that Kyle caved like the French army.

Dude.

Every one of them was getting a full NMC.

You can take a look at the list, which does in fact show who has full NMC, and who has partial NMC and NTC.

Why? Because you say so?

It's called "negotiation" for a reason. These players were not UFA (outside of JT) and did not have the leverage to dictate full NMC. I can see a NMC for Matthews, for instance, but not all three. They tied their own hands going forward.

Dubas and Shanahan got taken to the woodshed.

OK, so every player in that salary tier gets full NMCs, but you would have negotiated so that they took less salary and not had NMCs.

Why the hell doesn't MLSE hire you?

It's baffling.

Not every player in Nylander's tier has a NMC.

And we both know that Marner was pretty vastly overpaid on his contract.

I get it that you're good with the job Shanny did.

I just don't agree, at all.

Which is why you would like to be able to trade them if there was a chance they were not going to re-sign.

(Or, the flexibility to move off a "plan" - a plan that literally has never been proven to win anything before - should it prove to be a complete and utter failure, as it has).

Leafs fans never really agree on anything, so agree on that.

Folks look at trades all wrong to me. They evaluate like yourself - best player wins trade. That is not the measure. Of course one team can win and the other loose, but both can also win.

The goal of any trade is to improve your team. It’s a fallacy that the beast player in the deal wins the GM the trade. Overall improvement of roster wins the trade. For example - outside Pasta the Leafs had the 4 most talented (“best”) players in the series. Boston has a better roster. Better team. Against Florida same and against Tbay (outside Kucherov).

Hypothetical:
If Tre were to move Marner for a legit starter and dman. Then move JT for another Top 4 dman and with cap space created target a guy 2C and 3RW - Leafs are a far better team than last season. Marner and JT wouod be the best players in their deals but Leafs come out with better more competitive roster composition = win the trade

Name them.

Hint: if you look at the list I provided, some aren't listed because the guys aren't old enough yet. If you click on their names and look at their actual contracts, the NMCs kick in later.

Nylander did not have a NMC in his last contract. They put it on after he had resigned.

And Matthews is a top-5 player in the league. You stating that you wouldn't give him a NMC is silly. It's a non-starter.
