They've been saying this for most of the past decade and we're still on the outside looking in fwiw.
- QuinnFan

2015:

2. Buffalo Sabres

Existing Talent: General manager Tim Murray has raided the cupboard frequently in recent months in the name of rapidly improving his team. Many of those prospects not sent out of town have graduated to the majors; others have hit hurdles in their development. Even so, there is a lot of talent on the way.

Sam Reinhart, the No. 2 pick in 2014, is waiting for his chance to jump to the majors next season. So is top defensive prospect Jake McCabe after a very good rookie campaign in the AHL. Big-bodied winger Hudson Fasching is also well-regarded as a prospect. An assortment of lesser players sits beneath those three on the team depth chart.

Key New Additions: Jack Eichel is the second-best prospect on this list. He's a No. 1 overall talent who happened to be drafted in the same year as Connor McDavid, and that's how he should be regarded. Virtually every projection out there expects him to evolve into a franchise centre, a No. 1 pivot who will define his team for a decade or more.

Summary: Buffalo's prospect pool has seen a lot of change in a very short time period. There are good prospects here, though, and there is good depth. Most importantly, there is Eichel.

Exactly, case in point.

I do think we have a strong farm, but time to trade a couple pieces away to help vault us back into the playoffs.

Yea it should mean very little to us. How many teams have turned it around in that time frame without having a top rated pool

Realistically power was consensus, adams gets credit for Quinn, peterka and Benson. Benson is still on the TBD side of things and the rest no one will know how good they are for years to come

Winning is the only thing that matters and the big draft and development plan hasn't worked here yet

Benson is not going to reach Reinhart's ceiling. Let's be real, he's not getting 57 goals and 94 points in a season
- Hank Balling

Barkov winning the Selke, in pretty much unanimous voting, cost Samson Selke votes. Two guys from same team, even on the same line much of the time, wasn’t going to happen. Think he still finished top 5 for Selke.
Under rated defensively. I hope Zito can find a way to re-sign him.

Underrated and mostly hated while he was here. Now these plebs cry for him.

Should of listened.

More of the same 4 years later. These people don't learn.

What do any of the prospects have to do with Benson playing on the 2nd line?

None of them have shown anything in the NHL, and some have done little in the AHL.

Benson has a massive leg up on all of them, and deservedly so.

- kingcong39

they all scored just as many points in the nhl during Jan 2024 as Benson did

I'm just saying he had nearly identical production to what Hinostroza brought 2 years ago. He's probably going to be a good, serviceable middle-6 winger. That's fine

Well, I don't know what special means to anyone. But the way he plays the game, the offensive and defensive IQ, yeah, I think he'll be a a fan favorite. There's a 70 point player there who plays all situations. Any team in this league would be thrilled to have a piece like that.

A lot of chatter of how great Adams is at drafting

right now, powers is meh, first overall and was projected first overall by everyone so aside from that

quinn, injury bug, played 164 games between nhl and ahl over 4 seasons
perfetti and jarvis look to be much better players

peterka looks like his best pick to date

the 2 russians picked in 21 2nd round look to be busts
the goalie picked in the 2nd round looks to be a bust

rosen and kulich seem to have flaws that hopefully they figure out

savoie dinged up a bit mintyukov picked right after him seems to be legit

as of now, a lot of early picks that has not returned much given the draft capital he has had to work in

that's what I hope

they are all in play and benson is not handed a spot due to 11 goals last season

if benson is one of the 9 best up front in camp, good for him and I will cheer as loud as anyone for him

lets see how it plays out

- homiedclown

Benson was not "handed" a job last season. He was the best of the rookies by a wide margin. This board would have blown up if Adams sent him back..he deserved to be here. For him it absolutely was a valuable learning year.

To bad the other 19 roster players decided to let their meat loaf and didn't work for it.
Maybe he should wear a Letter.

Zemgus Girgensons: For me, it’s a matter of when, not if, when it comes to Zemgus and the captaincy. He plays key minutes and is the hardest worker on the team. Wearing an “A” for the season finale is very telling of what the coaching staff and his teammates think about the 20 year old. I think he is a year or two away from being the captain, but I’d make that “A” permanent for next season.

zero points in Jan

yet our gm let the slide continue, sinking our season

not saying he is the main reason why our season was a bust, just one of the many reasons why

Handed in the sense that KA did nothing to upgrade his forwards last summer.

We'll never know where the best place for Benson was last year.

Martin Necas was the 1st unanimous Sabres acquisition hopeful in Hockeybuzz history. Dude is a Sabre killer of the likes of Heater, Leclair, Alfie even. That's my barometer for players that can play for my hockey team any day. Just offer sheet him and be done with it.

Yup. The perfect player to trade for

Except for buff36 and washed up. They want to resign Andrew peters and hit guys to death still
