I see all of these idiot sites of Facebook trading Marner to almost every other city and what we should expect back in return. He's not getting traded before July 1st, regardless. Once the Leafs pay the signing bonus, he's under $1M in real money. Sure, the cap space is the issue, however many teams with cap space that want an Allstar on their team would see that as a win-win. They get a high end talent and only really pay $1M for his services for 1 year. Teams like Seattle, Utah and Columbus would be all in on a deal like that. There could also be a third side to the deal to knock off half of the Cap space. In reality, if Marner waives, there would be at least a dozen serious teams out there, looking to sign him. We hear of teams like Ottawa ready to make such a deal. Brady Tkachuk seems to be on their sh!t list these days. I'd take him in a heartbeat even up for Marner. Those guys are playoff beasts and that's exactly what the Leafs should be looking at. As a fanbase, we're all pretty much past regular season accomplishments. We want a long playoff run and a chance to play for the Cup. For the record, the Leafs have never won 3 rounds in the playoffs and that should be the goal. The finals and take your best shot at winning it. Tkachuk gives you that, Marner does not. Ottawa are perpetual losers so lets take that offer. We can shore up our defense other ways. |

Agreed! Sorokin is a better bet, younger and has a new contract kicking in. You might just get a defenseman thrown in to balance the money part of the deal. Pulock fits the bill.

Marner would only waive for specific teams - it's not a general waive and see what happens.
Can't see him waiving for Ott, Utah, Seattle, or any other team that has no chance at the Cup.
Marner's gonna get paid no matter what. Why would he want to get paid on a dog of a team?

He has issues with the press. Send him to a big market and he has the bright lights of a rabid media all over him. He should just pull a Gaudreau and take his retirement package elsewhere.

I guess the 'drop back' plan on the PP can work........with some modifications.
This is sneaky good - I love it.
Wish the Leafs had a PP coach who was creative enough to try something like this.

You know who else is good at that? Easton Cowan. He does it a lot on the powerplay. He sifts back and finds himself deep in his own end and throws a pass up and kicks it up to the other forwards. He buried Oshawa with plays like that.

https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/news/seven-superstars-who-broke-through-to-win-the-stanley-cup-after-long-droughts - wingz4life I remember Yzerman in Junior. I was sitting along the glass at the Quinte Sports Centre, in Belleville, Ontario when Bulls defenseman Ben Kelly hit him with a low bridge hit and tore up his knee. I wasn't sure if he'd ever become a useful player after that hit. It was gruesome. |

I actually don't mind when I am wrong. Being wrong is a learning opportunity. You just have to swallow your pride, admit you were wrong, take in the new correct information, and then you walk away smarter for it. You take a small temporary bruise to your pride, but you emerge better for it.
It's a lesson that many in our society need to learn and put into practice in their daily lives. A lot of our collective problems are made much worse by people refusing to admit they are wrong and then doubling-down on being wrong.
Having said that, I will now say - Marner and/or JT aren't going anywhere yet.
When the puck drops to start the season, Marner and JT will be in the starting lineup, barring an injury.
Ok, throw rotten fruit at me now. |

agree, its just to risky and Goalies are too unpredictable.
trade other parts if you want, but not a player like Marner - senstroll
This mindset is weird.
You put an elite goalie in any average goalies starts last year and the team does better.
I used to think that way too and its a load of crap, it is important to have good goaltending. |

From the last blog, and the "Rat"...this is a real hockey interview with no BS:
https://x.com/spittinchic.../1791148722018975829?s=42 - underhill14
Its why I very much dislike folks that chirp about tough players and physical Puck (including fights). Hockey is a game of intimidation (for reasons Brad outlines). Humans can and will always be intimidated no mater what stupid snarky smirk they wear.
All players understand this - certain fans choose to refuse to get it...and things like the Code as well. Very real to the actual players despite what fans want to believe and promote how 'toxic masculinity' ruins the game blah blah blah.
Cant stand Brad but more players should be this open. Hockey is a scary and violent game. Unless you take out hitting and make it only body contact this will be the case...and if they do take it out - it will be the death of the game.
Also: Defence and Tending wins Championships...along with toughness/skill mix. |

From last blog:
I could see Utah being prepared to throw big $s at him to help create some buzz and that has a poop load of picks to spend. The winning part is a big question mark but the owner apparently knows what he’s doing and could use him to help market the team. Long shot since there’s no history but Mitch might like being THE GUY. - Canada Cup
They have a lot of picks and prospects I'd be interested in too.
I'll take the 6'7'' D Man who can skate for starters. |
