Anyone else here think he might not be the king's sh!t? That the hype might have been a bit overblown?
Sometimes I think he just might be closer to Kane or a Nugent Hopkins type producer and not some 100pt per season killer like Kucherov,MacKinnon,Matthews etc.. Not that there is anything wrong with being another Patrick Kane, but that would be a weird let down.

Just saw he got a little more than 8min of ice time.

Yea and no, uncle Dale screwed the whole thing up with his RFA snafu. So maybe they got away with it on one end but they paid for it with the dismantling of 2010 team.

The Blackhawks did kind of wander in the dark when they built that team. How many bad contracts did uncle Dale give out as well.

This may go sideways, but I've still never seen any team this aggressive in a rebuild, looks like a couple of other teams like the Blackhawks approach, Philly, Calgary, Montreal realizing maybe it's better to have more 1st round picks instead of 7th round picks, SJ, Utah. Oh and Buffalo to

If this works for the Blackhawks and these other teams you'll see many teams doing this in the future.

In 4 to 5 years these will probably be the better playoff teams.

Stan was the assistant GM. I highly doubt it was Dale's job to take care of mere formality. Who knows if Dale actually checked whether the contracts were being sent out or not?

In this case it doesn't matter if still happened. So you don't hold the guy in charge accountable but the people who work under him, interesting, that's an entirely different debate.

I wouldn't read too much into it. He has scored and played well in previous games, he might not be 100% right now and he is young and young players are more inconsistent. 3 games without points in an international tourney should not define his career and a lot of what he did on the ice this season was pretty impressive for his age. Bedard will be his own player and will be fun to watch, let's not worry about just how he ranks among the greats just yet.

I think it was their fault as much as Dale's.
What I didn't understand at the time was if Dale screwed up,why replace him with his assistant who is also included in the screw up? Then I realized, they wanted a YES man. The way the falcons didn't want Belichick because he would have told them to go eat sh!t if they were thinking of drafting Penix. McCub wanted the same thing and got his guy. A lot of these b.s. "team presidents" or whatever you wanna call them have huge egos, and being told by a coach or gm to get bent doesn't sit well with them
Remember Bowman sending Barry to help the PP during a practice? Q told him to take a hike. Pretty sure Bowman wasn't happy about that, but Q didn't give a you know what. And little "Scotty" got his wish and hired a yes man in Colitton, who absolutely sucked. These idiots and their egos,it is nuts!
The Bowman/Colitton crap was just as bad as the Bulls Krause/Floyd pairing. His fishing buddy is going to be the next big head coach of an nba champion, sure thing buddy. The best thing is it always ends the same, and there are countless examples for these morons to look at and say: I better not do that!
But they go ahead and do it anyway.

Love me some Q! Hope he is back in the nhl one day

No salary retained on McDonough.
Does that mean Stamkos is heading to Toronto? Or some place warm?

McDonagh and a 4th for a 2nd and a 7th, it was. Aside from Tampa's added Stamkos intrigue, what is Nashville's next move? That leaves Nashville with $26 mill for 8 spots. Tampa now has $5 mill for 5 spots.

I think there is a general belief in the hockey world that Bedard's potential is a rung or two above Patrick Kane.

He got off to a good start, about a year younger than Kane and he put up similar production, while mostly playing a more difficult position as Center. I think all things considered, Kane didn't have to worry as much about teams trying to double team cover him, because the rest of his line was also dangerous and talented. Bedard still has a long way to go and a lot of hockey to play, but he has the potential to eclipse Kane's production.

I doubt Toronto, because of their salary cap situation, and also because Stamkos called out their core for taking the money instead of sacrificing some to imrpove the team's depth.

The FAN590 had two trade scenarios for Marner yesterday one was Saros plus for Marner the other, and it’s not going away, Jones plus for Marner.

Interesting. Saros and Marner both have one year left. i wonder what Nashville's defensemen situation will look like next year. Do they have people ready to step in, or are they going to be busy shopping there, too? And if they trade Saros, who steps in there?

Askarov. They used the 12thish pick on him 4 or so yrs ago. Been playing AHL. https://www.eliteprospect...r/552036/yaroslav-askarov

With teams like NJ and LA looking for a goalie, maybe SEA, NSH has partners but IMO Toronto might have their #1 in Woll.

Canucks as good as they were this season just weren't as talented at the top end or as deep as Edmonton right now. I know they had their 3rd string goalie, but he wasn't the problem. Canucks got outplayed for too much of that series. Outshot by almost 50% margin at 5v5 and couldn't afford to take a penalty because of the Edmonton powerplay unit being pretty effective. They made a good series of it and nearly stunned the Oilers.
- breadbag

They also turtled and trapped hard. I think they were smart enough to not try to play run and gun with the Oilers and it almost worked.

The Oilers are a better team except for the goalers. If Demko is healthy maybe they steal an extra game and go forward.

I do agree for this season what a great story for the Canucks and their fans. In the beginning of the season i had said the reason i liked our rebuild was because there was no chance we were going to be a pretender. Impressed with them winning a playoff series, even taking the Oilers to 7 games. But now here they are just paid Petter have $27 mil tied up in 3 players, have to sign Hronek, so $35 mil tied up in 4 players? Lindholm walks? I think things get so much harder for the front office of the Canucks starting tomorrow.
- BetweenTheDots

Thats just the reality of having very good players. They need to get paid. Hughes is a top defender in the league so they have that piece and an excellent goaler when healthy. Some very talented forwards. Fine line between very good and excellent.

Bedard will be over 10 million sooooo minimum:

10 + 4.6 + 9.5 (Jones) = 24.1 over 3 players in 2 years time. If Nazar puts up a 50 point season or two then there's another 6 million and you've got > 30 over 4.

I agree, Dallas will win out. They are a complete team, something the Oil is far from.
- glennjpawlak22

How so?

They have the best top 5 in the league. Their second pairing is kinda weak but their third isn't completely useless. Their second and third lines are good. Their fourth line is grindy.

The only thing theyre missing is a competent goaltender.

Yeah, and if he is on sale I am sure Chicago and St. Louis (his home) would be interested.
To me he is so calm and even if he turns into the transition to any successful Balckhawk goalie prospect, he is good enough to help now, b/c Mzarek cannot stand on his head for a decade...

I don't see it. I think the Stars forward depth will eat them alive.

The Oilers to me are a better version of the Maple Leafs. Built the wrong way, top heavy at forward, weaker at D and goaltending, although their top D are miles ahead of the Leafs.

I subscribe to the theory that the team with the best third line wins. Depth and goaltending, Stars have a huge advantage. I know they're trying to play with 5 D, we'll see if that costs them.

- MartiniMan

That is a silly comparison.

The Oilers have one of the top D pairings in the league. And thats not just offensive output thats for every other metric.

They are 3 lines deep and their 4th line isn't horrid.

The second pairing is weaker than ideal but their third is better than most other third pairings.

Their goaltending is rubbish but thats really the only glaring flaw.

They play a hard physical game. Obviously they had to to break down Vancouvers trap and get through that series when they couldn't just run and gun.
