This Mitch Marner for Seth Jones rumour isn’t going away, in fact it’s picking up steam. Of course it could be a case of everyone is picking a rumour and running with it as their own? I heard the rumour on the FAN yesterday. Today I heard Jeff Merrick from TSN is also talking about it. And a few weeks ago there was the attached article. During the discussion on the FAN the fact that Jones isn’t interested in playing for a Canadian team came up and he apparently doesn’t have the stomach for a rebuild. Not sure if he’s interested in the insane scrutiny he’ll be under with the Toronto media?

At least Leaf fans will be glad he was the reason Marner would no longer be a Lesf.

I think Vancouver will be fine. Silvos and Hronek are the only RFAs worth noting. Dakota Joshua would be a UFA worth re-signing, but he’s going to sign in Chicago. 🤣

NJ just needs to re-sign Mercer (I wish the Hawks drafted him instead of Reichel), acquire a goalie and stay healthy.

I’m skeptical that either player would waive. However the Toronto media is worse than anything Jones has ever dealt with and I’m sure a large part of him not being interested in a Canadian team has allot to do with being under a microscope every single shift.

Why get involved with Marner unless the front office and the coaching staff have a burning desire to unload Jones? KD would definitely have to eat half of Jones' contract because not doing that would stick the Maple Loafs with $17M tied up in both Jones and Rielly for 6 more years. They are really stupid on a sunny day but even they are probably not dumb enough to do that.

Looks like Steven Stamkos is all done in Tampa. I'd rather overpay him for a couple years than get saddled with Marner. Bedard / Stamkos / Hall as 1st line would at least make the Hawks look like an NHL team. And then pick off a couple of Carolina free agents like Martinook and 1 of their UFA defenceman.

Not saying being a Kane type would be bad. He'd be better than 99% of the league. I was just sold on him being a better Kane etc..

Not sure why he was only played 8min last game,10min the game before - I haven't heard anything that he might be injured or anything similar.

I dunno- the riots, and fan hubris anyways from that time the Canucks lost to the Bruins was pretty good --- you could swear there were still some Vancouver fans running around thinking they won...

I mean the banner raising for losing in the SCF -that was pretty special too... good times in the Western Conference.

Good question... Truthfully if there is any way of bringing Kane back ( hopefully the door is not slammed shut) I would rather overpay for him then Stamkos

Anything with Marner won’t happen until after July 1 when his $ 10 mil. Bonus is due. Then he is only owed $775k for the year, and also is eligible for a sign and trade.

The instant McEgo convinced Scotty Bowman to come over to Chicago from Detroit in my mind it was only so Stan could become the next GM. There's no way Scotty was impressed with McD's hockey knowledge. I think Dale would have thought the same thing. He went to Florida real soon after getting bounced here so my thinking is he was aware his job was on thin ice and he was making future plans. The whole thing was a set up the second Scotty accepted McD's offer.

Strange moves sometimes happen
Cannot picture S Jones in Toronto but what if Leafs decide they want to win with the top offensive guys not Marner inclusive? Different coach mean different style of play? Maybe KD figures the only way he is getting a second top ten ‘24 draft choice is to offer our #20 plus paying a large percentage of Marner cap hit. Marker big boost to some other team’s defense and Chicago covers the much of dollars and cap hit plus this team still can grab someone with the # 20 who snuck down a couple slots

Chicago could draft both a forward and dman. The dman could turn out to be Jones’ replacement eventually
