Flyers open to trade for Risto according to Ek. Very funny.
I hope they aren’t under the impression he is an asset with value. Something poop is coming back or picks will have to be added. - StepfordSam
If they’re willing to retain on Risto I believe he’d have more value than many of us think. Same with Couturier.
A team could get Risto as low as $2.5m for 3 years. There’s more than a few teams that would be interested in him if the Flyers retain a little. For Couturier, a team could get him as low as $3.8m. He’d definitely have value with retention.
Retaining on Risto would be no sweat for me because I don’t see them becoming a contender in that time frame and there’s no reason to be adding any big $ players during that time either. It’ll come off right when they need to re-sign Michkov.
Retaining on Couturier would be a lot harder to do because it’s 6 more years. But for the right return, I’d do it. |

Retaining on Risto will look like the Hayes deal. Very minimal return. Is that worth it?
To me the smart move is to ride the contract out for now.

How is that possible? He wasn't the hands down favorite.

It must be rigged. He finished 12th in the voting. He got 2 2nd place votes and a 3rd. How can a guy go from the favorite to bust in 12 games?

I believe they could get a better return for Risto then Hayes. If traded this summer, he will be traded a couple of months before turning 30, basically a year younger then Hayes. RHD dmen who have mobility seem to retain higher value then aging centers. Heck, look at how long Luke Schenn (he is now 34- making 2 75 million/yr) has stayed in the league and he was never mobile.
His cap hit is 2 million less per year, which is pretty significant. |

Michkov needs a center! Best way to get one is to draft one and let them grow together - mikeyo27

I think don't think it's fair to make this statement yet. It really depends on what else the Flyers do with their roster. What if Briere and company decide its best to part ways with Couts and they can trade him to another team and get out from all or most of his contract. The resigning TK and making him the captain of the team makes a lot of sense. So to me, I am open to trading TK if it will accelerate the rebuild by getting back a potential 1D or 1C, but I am also quite happy to keep him if other roster changes are made. - jd250
Try to follow along…
1) tk is gonna want 8 year deal… you NEVER sign a close to 30 year old to 8 years(unless clear bonafide hall of fame type player)
2) you don’t EVER deviate from that principle. In no scenario is signing tk to long term contract a good move. None. Nada |

Trade TK, not Farabee.
I don’t care what the coach thinks. Guy won’t be here much longer. |

Your blanket principle of you NEVER sign a close to 30 year old player unless a clear bona fide hall of Fame player continues to be foolishness. Each player needs to be taken on an individual basis and the situation judged by its own merit.
Your second statement is also foolish. If hypothetically the Flyers were a legit cup contender in this situation, then re-signing a player like Konecny to a long term deal would be prudent.

RR needs to be a deadline deal, hoping he stays healthy and shows some of what he was showing when he was. |

With two more years left, unlikely to be a deadline deal unless he plays really well. Also unlikely

There’s always a GM who will take on some of these contracts and players. I don’t get the TB trade yesterday

What was the injury he had again? I don’t remember. I’d definitely look to retain some salary to move him. It’s ridiculous what we pay for him as a bottom pair dman. |

Insert finger in cheek and make popping sound. We know who the real Jack Adams award winner is
But what I love the most is all three of MJLs favorite head coaches are making golf reservations today, Monty, Brindy and Tocchet. But hey, according to him they are modern NHL coaches and the best in the biz |

See if you can follow along ... the only team that can give TK an 8 year deal is the Flyers and I'll tell you right now they are not going over 6 years. Secondly other teams might be willing to go 7 years which is their max, but I think this is unlikely also. Also, if TK wants to truly stay here he is going to have to give the Flyers some amount of home team discount, otherwise he will be traded. But be careful, TK is not going to bring back as much as you might think in a trade, since he would have to be extended to a big contract. Fletcher is not back in the NHL yet, is he? |
