What was the injury he had again? I don’t remember. I’d definitely look to retain some salary to move him. It’s ridiculous what we pay for him as a bottom pair dman.

Torn triceps it looks like but why did were they mysterious about it and did they wait 2 months to have the surgery?

Not just what they pay him but what they traded for him. Fletcher doubled down on his mistake with the extension despite all analytical evidence to the contrary.

Insert finger in cheek and make popping sound. We know who the real Jack Adams award winner is

But what I love the most is all three of MJLs favorite head coaches are making golf reservations today, Monty, Brindy and Tocchet. But hey, according to him they are modern NHL coaches and the best in the biz

- jd250

Well, one of them did just win the Jack Adams, soo.....

The other 2 finished ahead of your guy. Rod got 4 first place votes.

I love it too, because again, it just proves him right and you wrong.

I don't think you could make a dumber post. All but one coach eventually loses in the playoffs. I've also never stated or implied in any way that Tocchet was one of my favorite coaches. In fact when his name was brought up as a potential Flyers coach, I was against it.

So tell me, is this what you've become? Just posting to get a rise out of someone? Just another way for you to make a fool of yourself. Apparently, you know endless ways of doing so.

See if you can follow along ... the only team that can give TK an 8 year deal is the Flyers and I'll tell you right now they are not going over 6 years. Secondly other teams might be willing to go 7 years which is their max, but I think this is unlikely also. Also, if TK wants to truly stay here he is going to have to give the Flyers some amount of home team discount, otherwise he will be traded. But be careful, TK is not going to bring back as much as you might think in a trade, since he would have to be extended to a big contract. Fletcher is not back in the NHL yet, is he?
- jd250

You're wrong. Konecny is getting 8 years from the Flyers if they re-sign him. If he is traded or eventually hits free agency. He's getting 7 or 8 years. You continue to show that you have no grasp of the NHL landscape. You are clueless in pretty much everything.

With two more years left, unlikely to be a deadline deal unless he plays really well. Also unlikely
- MJL

agree. the delusional flyers fans think otherwise.

now with 50% retention it may be possible. I am still convinced they like RR and want to keep him.

I believe they could get a better return for Risto then Hayes. If traded this summer, he will be traded a couple of months before turning 30, basically a year younger then Hayes. RHD dmen who have mobility seem to retain higher value then aging centers. Heck, look at how long Luke Schenn (he is now 34- making 2 75 million/yr) has stayed in the league and he was never mobile.
His cap hit is 2 million less per year, which is pretty significant.

- Trox88

luke schenn is a better dman than RR. as far as schenn lacking mobility it think was way overblown.

when played and slotted properly luke is a solid nhl dman. Now RR playing on the 3rd pair is fine to me. just way overpaid.

Hayes also has produced at a steady 40 + clip and is not this stiff many make him out to be. he is also more durable than what RR has shown recently.

that is one of the dumbest things you have stated on these boards. He is getting 8 years. bet my left nut on it. He doesn't have to give the flyers schitt nor should he.

if he hits free agency he gets 7 years. bet my right nut on it.

you really have no pulse on how things will play out.

This is his last big pay day. He is going for max term and money. There is no reason he would give a hometown discount or should take one. People who think otherwise have no clue.

it proves absolutely nothing. Im fact, that Torts got 3 votes for a team that didn't even make the playoffs tells you there is a lot of sentiment out there that Torts is doing an outstanding job with this team. Has he been perfect, not even close, but the good has far outweighed the bad.

There is some sarcasm here for sure. Torts did not deserve the award this year IMO because 1. how the team faltered down the stretch and 2. how Torts reacted to the team as the pressure builded. But I have disdain for the worship some coaches get from MJL and others on this forum, like somehow these coaches are "modern style" coaches that are superior to Torts. All 3 coaches, Tocchet, Monty and Brindy had superior teams to the Flyers, and none of those teams could even get to the final 4. I did not follow the Canes and Canucks as much, but in Boston, I thought Monty was off the rails a few times with this team. And it was well publicized that if the Bruins lost in the 1st round again, Monty would be fired. So much for the importance or meaning of a Jack Adams award. In the end, the only thing that defines a good NHL coach are wins and losses, with the rare exceptions like Lindy and Trotz.

If he gets $10+ AAV then maybe he does 6. Not sure why any team would offer him $10+ per year though. His total contract will be in the $60-70mil range.

You don't worship Brind'amour? You don't worship Montgomery? Come on, the only person that makes a fool out of themselves daily is you! Your hatred of Torts blinds you to what a good NHL coach really is. You call Torts antiquated because he benches a player, yet how has the tactics and approach of these other coaches lead their teams to success? Great regular seasons, not close to being able to perform in the playoffs. When are you going to learn that what Torts teaches and his knowledge of how to build a team that can actually go deep in the playoffs is what makes him one of the best coaches in the league?

No they are not. When Torts came here, the front office would not acknowledge the need for a rebuild from the footings. When Torts came here the medical staff was in disarray. With Torts' influence, new leadership is in place and a new direction that was long overdue is now being executed. The team this year should have been a playoff team and had the best season for the Flyers in quite a while.

The Flyers love you. So Torts fixed the medical staff, engaged a rebuild?, pointed the team in a new direction and installed a new leadership group in two seasons?

Do you really believe any of this? Honestly.

Torts is not a good coach. His whole "style" is "play harder". He doesn't coach or teach poop. He is a task master. He doesn't teach strategy, he has one bullet in his gun. He can take a mediocre roster and squeeze a few more wins out of them by wearing them out with effort. That is all he does. The more we watch him, the more we realize he got lucky with his one championship, that was the outlier.

be humble and add yourself as well.

what team in the last 20 years has he coached that has gone deep in the playoffs.

Also why do you think no other team interviewed him before the flyers hired him? what is your take on that
