he needs his own statue in front of the wells fargo center. wipe your chin.

yet this was still a schitty season.

- hello it's me 2050

I guess "Quite a while" means 3 seasons. This year they finished 11th in their conference and 6th in their division. Incredible season!

No they are not. When Torts came here, the front office would not acknowledge the need for a rebuild from the footings. When Torts came here the medical staff was in disarray. With Torts' influence, new leadership is in place and a new direction that was long overdue is now being executed. The team this year should have been a playoff team and had the best season for the Flyers in quite a while.

4 years. 4 years ago they had more points which really wasn't that long ago. 1 of the years was the covid shortened season and another of those years was a year Torts was coaching the team so it's only been 1 non covid/non torts coached year since they had more points than this past year and no they never should've been a playoff team. This year was a perfect storm of Metro suckage that gave them the illusion of a playoff possibility. Heck they didn't win a single game against anyone in their division for the first 3 months of 2024.

The emotional investment people have in Torts as the savior is baffling to me. He is not a modern hockey coach and brings those "old time hockey" vibes eschewing modern methods and analytics.

See if you can follow along ... the only team that can give TK an 8 year deal is the Flyers and I'll tell you right now they are not going over 6 years. Secondly other teams might be willing to go 7 years which is their max, but I think this is unlikely also. Also, if TK wants to truly stay here he is going to have to give the Flyers some amount of home team discount, otherwise he will be traded. But be careful, TK is not going to bring back as much as you might think in a trade, since he would have to be extended to a big contract. Fletcher is not back in the NHL yet, is he?

Any team holding TK's rights at the TDL can offer an 8 year contract. If he signs as a UFA next summer, he can only get a 7 year offer. But the comment that the Flyers are the only ones is just flat out wrong.

The 2013 CBA, which is still in effect, capped new contracts at seven years. There was an exception written in for teams that wanted to give their own players — RFAs or UFAs — one more year.

(b) The following practices also shall not be permitted under this Agreement and may not be included in any SPC, nor otherwise agreed to by any Club, any person or any entity:

(iv) An SPC with a term of greater than seven (7) years, provided, however, that a Club may sign a Player to an SPC with a term of up to eight (8) years if that Player was on such Club’s Reserve List as of and since the most recent Trade Deadline. With respect to potential Unrestricted Free Agents only, the ability to re-sign a Player to an SPC of eight (8) years expires when the Player becomes an Unrestricted Free Agent. With respect to a Player who becomes a Group 2 Restricted Free Agent, a Club may sign such Player to an SPC with a term of up to eight (8) years provided such Player was on such Club’s Reserve List and/or Restricted Free Agent List as of and since the most recent Trade Deadline.

it proves absolutely nothing. Im fact, that Torts got 3 votes for a team that didn't even make the playoffs tells you there is a lot of sentiment out there that Torts is doing an outstanding job with this team. Has he been perfect, not even close, but the good has far outweighed the bad.
- jd250

You don't even have any common sense. There were what 115 voters and Tortorella got 3 votes. That's a lot of sentiment? LOL. I wonder what area those 3 voters are from?

There is some sarcasm here for sure. Torts did not deserve the award this year IMO because 1. how the team faltered down the stretch and 2. how Torts reacted to the team as the pressure builded. But I have disdain for the worship some coaches get from MJL and others on this forum, like somehow these coaches are "modern style" coaches that are superior to Torts. All 3 coaches, Tocchet, Monty and Brindy had superior teams to the Flyers, and none of those teams could even get to the final 4. I did not follow the Canes and Canucks as much, but in Boston, I thought Monty was off the rails a few times with this team. And it was well publicized that if the Bruins lost in the 1st round again, Monty would be fired. So much for the importance or meaning of a Jack Adams award. In the end, the only thing that defines a good NHL coach are wins and losses, with the rare exceptions like Lindy and Trotz.

They are superior to Tortorella as coaches and it's not close. There you go with fantasy ifs again. Which is what you always do. You don't deal in reality because that shows how foolish you are. So you avoid reality.
Now since Tortorella didn't win or finish as a finalist, you are downplaying the relevance of the award. If Tortorella had been a finalist. You'd be spouting off about what it means. You couldn't be a bigger hypocrite

You don't worship Brind'amour? You don't worship Montgomery? Come on, the only person that makes a fool out of themselves daily is you! Your hatred of Torts blinds you to what a good NHL coach really is. You call Torts antiquated because he benches a player, yet how has the tactics and approach of these other coaches lead their teams to success? Great regular seasons, not close to being able to perform in the playoffs. When are you going to learn that what Torts teaches and his knowledge of how to build a team that can actually go deep in the playoffs is what makes him one of the best coaches in the league?
- jd250

There is no worship of anyone. I recognize Brind'Amour and Montgomery for the quality and top coaches in the league that they are. All of the factual information available, confirms that. While you truly worship Tortorella as a coach. Stating that he should've been the hands down winner in 22/23 when he didn't get a single vote. To spouting off that he was going to win it this past season. You and Phillywhiteout.
Again, you live in fantasy land. Tortorella coached teams have only made it past the 2nd round of the playoff once in the last 20 years. He is a mediocre coach whom the game has past by and the Flyers will never be a top team as long as he is involved. We both know who is going to end up correct. You telling someone when are they going to learn! Hysterical.

Flyers had better seasons under Vigneault and Hakstol than any season Tortorella has been here.

This is another version of "Fletcher has put the team on the path to the cup"
