There’s basically a consensus 8 after Celebrini. There’s some outliers but that’s always the case. The draft is muddied after those guys. You may get the same quality player at 12 that you do at 20 or later.

The 8 after Celebrini are (no particular order):
F-Demidov
F-Lindstrom
F-Catton
D-Levshunov
D-Buium
D-D*ckinson
D-Parekh
D-Silayev

The 5 defenseman are considered to have #1D potential. That’s where the strength of this class is considered.

The 2025 Draft is said to be deeper overall and is why the Flyers got Colorado’s 2025 1st instead of 2024. Additionally, next years draft is deeper at C especially at the top but thinner on top defensemen.

My question to you is, what prospect are you acquiring for TK?

- Schmojo

I don't see any consensus forming around the top-8. There's still guys like Eiserman, Sennecke and Iginla who are in the process of rising/falling. I doubt every team feels comfortable making a pure tools bet on Silayev. And of course Lindstrom's injury history will give people pause. And the Russian Factor is always a thing.

It's basically Celebrini followed by a couple of guys like Demidov and Levshunov and then a swath of 10-15 players who could really go anywhere depending on team preference.

I think some teams see him being able to play center. A Wild blogger proposed a trade for Rossi assuming that Necas would be playing center.

I'd take that deal

I saw that as well. I would do that deal. It was good to see a perspective from another fanbase. While we sometimes overvalue what we have, we can also undervalue what we have.

With Slaf, Caufield and Roy a top-six wing is probably not high priority enough for them to be trading out of a top-5 pick... which they could just use to pick a player that will potentially be (much) better than Farabee.
- Tomahawk

Their main target appears to be Demidov who’s a winger. The are supposedly targeting a forward because they have some young defensive depth. If Demidovis gone before 5 they may be interested in moving it. If Lindstrom is also gone they are likely very interested in moving it. They could move back quite a bit and still get guys like Iginla, Eiserman, Sennecke, Helenius etc.

I’d like the Flyers to try to move into the top 10 without moving 12. I think a package of TK, Laughton and either of the CLB or ANA 2nd could do it.

it makes zero sense for them to do that for those 3 pieces. zero.

just not realistic on any way to me.

A few days ago I saw a MTL publication proposing:

Habs get:

Joel Farabee
Philadelphia 2025 4th round pick

Flyers get:

Montreal 2025 1st round pick
Joshua Roy
David Savard

- Minnyhock

Yeah, that’s the 2025 pick not the 5th overall pick. It’s likely to still be a pretty high pick though. I think what often happens with Flyers fans is they over devalue players because of their utilization. Most Flyers are playing above their line value. For Example, Morgan Frost doesn’t suck despite what many people like to say. The problem is, without a true 1st line center, Frost often gets other teams 1st line matchups because he’s playing up a line. If the Flyers had a real 1C Frost would be freed up from those matchups and appear to be a better player than some currently perceive.

They could still use help on D tho. Reinbacher, Hutson and Guhle have a lot of potential but they can't exactly act like their blueline is set.

Tij is a huge riser, just like Reinbacher last season. He's a guy I wouldn't be surprised to see MTL step up and take at 5OA.

If Demidov and Lindstrom are off the board and they’re not going to take a defensman, than that’s more than a fair offer. I’d bump the 2nd up to the FLA 1st if needed. They’re not taking Catton according to all Montreal media and they’re not taking the risk on Eiserman. The offer I made is better than selecting the other remaining forwards.

They also have Mailloux who is thought of highly. If I was Montreal I’d take one of the top D. But everything I’ve seen from Montreal is they’re taking a forward.

that is a pretty black and white way to determine a good or successful coach. a lot of coaches that have great records but never won the cup throughout the NHLs history.

If they extend TK with the current state of the roster I don’t think I can even feign concern for this franchise any longer.

I have family ties to the Sabres. Might be time to jump ship for the slightest of improvements

Agreed. York, TK and maybe Sanheim are the only roster players that get you close to going from 12 to 6-8.
- mickel25

I would rather just try to move 12th overall for a young center already in someone’s system. Connor Geekie came to mind the other day just as an example. He’s 20, plays every inch of the ice which Torts would love and Utah has quite a bit of center depth as is. He previously went 11th overall so it’s not a lowball to start with 12th overall (and maybe add a mid round pick or two if need be).

The 12 spot will give Arizona a good wing or D prospect, which they need much more than we do. Flyers get a good young center and don’t have to overpay some crazy amount to move up a few spots.

I’m having doubts about Guerin. He signs 4 30ish bottom 6ers to multi year deals making it extremely difficult to sign a high end FA coming out of cap hell.

He tells Rossi he has to get stronger, play along the wall and go to the net. So Rossi does all that and becomes their best 5x5 player. Then Guerin says now I can use him to get someone bigger.

Yeah, their D situation reminds me a bit of where the Flyers were a few years ago around the time they drafted Provy. Lot of good young prospects, some already with pro experience, but you just can't count blueline chickens until they've hatched.

If they take another D I'm sure their fans will take it as gracefully as they did last season when they took Reinbacher over Mich.

It wouldn’t surprise me if MTL made a swing for the fences pick like Silayev. They didn’t do that with Michkov but maybe they’re ready to go big now.

This is the stuff that makes me know there will always be GMs that will take on players like Risto. Old school thinking will always be present in quantity.

I also understand that rebuilding as a GM is a hard choice. No GMs ever see their rebuilds payoff, it’s always the next guy who puts the final piece in the puzzle. I mentioned Dale Tallon the other day. He built the core of the Hawks that won 3 cups and he built the core of this Panthers team. But he was removed both times.

"I STRENUOUSLY OBJECT?".....

disagree 100% that tk, laughton, and a 2nd is a fair offer for the 5 overall.

2 complimentary player doesn't get it done. one who is a free agent to be in a year

Not a horrible idea. Plus the kid is 6’4” and over 200 lbs. Could be an ideal fit for Michkov. The only thing is why would Utah do that when they can fill that need with the 6th overall pick? But this is exactly the type of thinking that I hope GMDB is doing right now.

I don’t think that gets it done as well. Honestly, right now I would hold at 12 and if someone offers a young true center prospect and more you consider it. Otherwise I stick at 12 and hope Catton falls.

You’re significantly over valuing the forwards in this draft and significantly under valuing TK. As I’ve said, if they’re not taking a defenseman, Catton, or Eiserman and both Lindstrom and Demidov are gone, then all that’s left are forwards who project as middle six forwards. Which in that case, the offer I suggested is way more than fair.

I think that’s a good comparison. Provy even looked like he was going to be a #1 after a couple seasons. They have some good forwards and obviously could use more but in this draft, I’m taking one of the defensemen. Which is why I so badly want the Flyers to move up and get one.

With Tallon it's less a case of him being a terrific builder and more a case of him unintentionally running teams into the ground, resulting in high draft picks that turned into top players that the next regime built around.
