Sooooo, what is this Marc Savard guy gonna do to help the Leafs?
- Whipper

Savard will be the PP coach. I don't know if he's any good. I know he can't be as bad as Boucher.

Let's face it, the Power Play can sometimes be a bit of a crapshoot - guys have off years, injuries, bad luck - it can all play a part of bringing down the PP.

Marc Savard started as an assistant to Berube in St. Louis in 2019-20 and the PP was 3rd in the league @ 24.3% (Behind Boston's 25.2%, and Edmonton at 29.5%).

The next year, Savard did not return - as he went to Windsor to be the head coach for the Spitfires, and St. Louis' PP dropped slightly to 6th @ 23.2%. For additional context, in 2021-22 the Blues had the 2nd best PP @ 27.3% and in the year prior to Savard arriving, the Blues were 10th @ 21.1% - so if it was coaching, that's great - but in some cases it's just the personnel.

Last year as Calgary's PP coach, the Flames were crap @ 17.9%, tied for 25th in the league. The Flames scored the 18th most goals in the league, so ultimately the problem there was just lack of scoring . . Kadri led the team with 10 PP goals, 6 from Sharangovich and then 5 from Kuzmekno who only played 29 games as a Flame. No shooters, an aging and slowing Huberdeau, Lindholm sucking for most of the year . . . . hard to place Calgary's lack of success at Savard's feet.

ha! not a chance in hell would PLD be able to play for Berube
- drexel

I meant the role of whipping boy.

I certainly hope no one is considering PLD as an option for the Leafs.

I agree with the first line.

But if I'm the GM, I offer him the exact same money as Nylander, and tell him to take it or leave it.
- Atomic Wedgie

It’s not Marners fault they overpaid Nylander..

Cause this idea that Nylander and Marner are on the same level is absurd.

- Tanooki

True, Nylander is a much better playoff performer.

What's Marner done to justify getting more than 11.5m ?

Pasternak is a 11.5m hit - no way Marner is the better player.

FIRSTIES!👊🏿

queef will achieve similar or worse results in NJ with the soft as slime roster and sketchy goaltending 🤦‍♂️

if they wanted a guy who could choreograph the icecapades to first round losses then they got their man🤦🏿‍♂️

what a (frank)ing joke🤦‍♂️

edit: nice alliteration 👍🏿

All the kids are still sleeping in their mom's basement covered in Cheetos dust with a stiff sock on the floor so I guess it's safe to post.

(frank) Captain JT, Matthews with the C and trade MM.

Berubae (stolen) will need some speed or balls in the line up next season. Do NOT roll it back.

Re-sign Domi.
Sign Zadorov.
Sign Skjei.
Trade for Tom Wilson. (Lily/Robertson/Minten don't care, get him)
Trade for PLD and Clarke. (Marner)
Find a better G.

Wilson, Matthews (C), Domi
Knies, PLD, Nylander
McMann, Tavares, Jarnkrok
Dewar, Kampf, Reaves

Rielly, Zadorov
Beniot, McCabe
Skjei, Clarke

1A
Broken Woll

Marner, Robertson, Lily, and any one else not listed in the line up will be used in trades for the above Stanley Cup winning line up. (If anyone listed above in the line up is not available than a "like" type will be chosen in their place.)

Once JT is formally yeeted, you can use the extra Cap for additions for the Cup repeat in 25/26.

(frank) all y'all.

- underhill14

Nashville got tons of cap space and no state income tax ......(I heard that)
How can the Leafs compete with that?

JT and PLD seem to be working well at the Worlds.....

So much wrongness in this thread already.

Serious question, what are you all gonna do when Marner isn’t moved? And which team are you going to cheer for? Because it can’t be Toronto.

- Tanooki

I think he and JT will be extended

I'm almost 100% certain of that. Not ideal, but at least we get to watch Mitch's dangles all regular season.

If he isn’t moved I’ll continue to piss on him if he is signed to more than Willie, especially if they lose again in playoffs. I might start watching Utah. Maybe Berube will give MM a spine, doubt it! But, point being, I can do whatever I want, your rules are not my rules.

Patrick Marleau, who was stripped of the C so....

Joe Thornton could be named Captain, only to be stripped of the C eventually as well.

Dustin Brown, who was replaced by Anze Kopitar

Roberto Luongo, who gave up the captaincy himself (reportedly)

Mike Modano, probably because of Mike Babcock

Trevor Linden, who had it stripped in favour of Mark Messier in his short Canucks stint

Brett Hull, who feuded with his coach

Patrik Elias, who was stripped and then offered it back but didn’t want it.

Joe Sakic, when they were still the Nordiques, he went from the captain to an assistant the next year to being given back the C the year after that.

- AdamFrench

How the frank did you leave Vinnie Lecavalier off this list?

I think if you really got into truth telling Jaime’s probably the one guy most of the league doesn’t really want a part of …because he can really chuck’em ..even now, he’s just a nasty piece of business….

I know when Perry and Getz played with him on team Canada… Getz was saying they did an informal poll and he was the one guy nobody really wanted a piece of..🤣🤣🤣🤣

wasn’t like Getz was some kind of wallflower either / he fought a ton in Jr, and a lot with the ducks.

The C is just the guy that can handle the media the most.

The leaders will be leaders regardless.

He goes to Utah.

Signs 7 x $13M.

Establishes himself as a locker room cancer.

Utah is so fed up they trade him back to Leafs 50% retained for a 3rd rounder.

Leafs win three Stanley Cups in a row.

Decades later, in a best-selling book, Marner reveals he acted out in Utah on purpose - it was deliberate to get back to the only team he ever wanted to play for - the glorious Toronto Maple Leafs.

This is correct.

Although apparently some organizational responsibilities (social) fall on the captain’s wife/girlfriend.

Creating as much pain and discomfort for the opposing goalie. Create high danger opportunities. These do not come from the corner.

Legends status.

Deserves a spot on the row for that.

He already deserves a spot there anyways.

This is not correct.

The C absolutely HAS to be a significant presence on the ice in terms of being the centrepiece of the identity of the team.

Being a capable mouthpiece is not enough. Tavares can handle the media. He's not a great captain. Tavares lacks identity and the Leafs as a team have lacked identity for *years*. It's been a leadership vacuum. Closest thing we've seen to leadership was Rielly's suspension.

Anyone watching the Jays game right now?

No power to the broadcast truck, so they have the scoreboard feed, and Jays broadcasters calling the game from their phone - about 3 seconds ahead of the video.
