Not sure what you are trying to prove?

All three have underperformed in playoffs based on their Cap hits (well Nylander not so much since he's still playing out his 2nd contract not the new one).

You Really haven't made much of a case.

A rebuttal - while you make very factual points - when you can sell a 850 sq ft home in Cali on 2400 sq ft lot for 775K as I did - buy a beautiful 1800 sq ft condo in Boca for 210K - avoid 10% local & huge state tax - while avoiding other fees locally & regionally - try to find an insurer who isn’t leaving the state - grind you way through layers of anti business bureaucracy-

not to mention pay 3+$ less per gal of petrol -

trust me a lot of Cali peeps are heading to Fla & other southern states and are more than happy to pay fees - & inflated ins. Premiums -

I live downtown Toronto ....$775k might buy you a 400sq ft garage. Even though you have to flip the exchange rates the $$$ definitely goes further in the south.

That's 100% false. He can be asked to waive his NMC. If they don't ask, then he won't be traded. But plenty of players have been asked and have waived their NMC. It's not the first, wouldn't be the last either.

If they make it clear they do not want him now or going forward, he will waive and move on. It's a matter of management pushing the issue and making it known to him he has no future in Toronto. Followed by figuring out how to make the numbers work between cap floor teams to get his cap hit lowered and then the final destination where he lands for 4-5 AAV instead of 11.

No he shouldn't because he's more valuable at 11.5 AAV than Nylander is. If it boils down to "one of the big 3" have to go, it's Nylander before Marner. Marner plays against tougher competition, he is consistently among Selke candidates, he makes Matthews better, he kills penalties, he's younger and he has more career playoff points. There is no world where Marner is less valuable than Nylander for the same money.

Matthews at 13.25, Marner at 11.9 and Nylander at 11.5 is not what you would ideally want to pay those guys. Unfortunately, given how much money they lose by playing in Toronto due to taxes, that's what it costs to give them the final dollar amounts they'd make somewhere else.

Having 36 million tied in 3 forwards is indeed more difficult but not impossible. They just can't afford to have deadweight like Tavares around anymore and fill in the blanks either this year or next year.

- Rare_Jewel

you are WRONG!
you can asked but the will never leave ....

NCAA agreed to a $2.8B settlement last night, which everyone is saying will pave the way to paying athletes directly (although that's pretty much happening now with NIL deals).

It's going to be cray cray the next few years in college football.

And quite frankly, it's needed. It's so franking boring to watch teams play 11 games in a season, of which 8 are guaranteed victories before the coin toss.

They need to set up a system like English football, with higher and lower divisions, and relegation and promotion.

Yes matthews is another great reg season player.

My course is out and back - golfing 9 is incredibly inconvenient, and they don't let you just golf the back 9.

No pausing at the turn - you have to phone in your order, grab it and step up to the tee box.

The rest of your plan definitely checks out, though.

Note: of course, I am probably going to be kicked out of my club today. On Wednesday, I had dinner after a round, then a few drinks. Put half a panini in a box. Decided to have a good steam and shower before I went home, so stuffed the panini in my golf shoes drawer in my locker.

Then I forgot to take it home.

I'm going up today to throw it out, but I'm praying that it doesn't stink (although it can't possibly stink worse than my golf shoes).

Oh ya ..my bad, I was setting an ideal Florida summer itinerary. Gators and all.

And dude, what's with you and your clear neglect of italian food?

What's next?! Melt your gelato? Drop your bomboloni's on the sidewalk? Let your Moretti get warm?

So for a while around 1999-2001 I lived at 77 Harbour Square in Toronto. They just listed the unit directly above the one I lived in for $478k. I think the place was 300 - 400 square feet. If I were single with no kids I'd still live in that place. I loved that unit and that building. They had a restaurant on the 10th floor with room service and a shuttle bus that would run you to work (I only ever took it once, but it was a cool option) and a few other standard amenities. (edit.

I'm not going to lie here - I was absolutely shocked to see that it was that cheap. I know it's tiny, but when you live alone tiny is awesome. Someone calls and wants to come over and the place is a "disaster". Well, it's cleaned in 15 minutes! Come on over!

So in the image directly on the left of this one, https://www.realtor.ca/l/...L/ja?propertyIds=26936869, is 10 Harbour Square - that's where my wife and I lived for a few years when we moved in together after I'd lived in the place I just mentioned to The Law above. The called the two buildings "The World Trade Centre". I don't know if they changed the name, but they didn't do so in the immediate aftermath of the 9/11 attack nor had they by the time we moved in 2003. It was still 20 years ago and we paid over $2k in rent for a 2 bedroom + 2 bath (really 1 bedroom and den, because that other bedroom was so small - it was just our office).

Sure, you can absolutely buy a tiny box in the sky for 500K - 600k. Although many of those buildings on Ft York, Liberty Village, etc... have become condo ghettos ...not well kept ...air bnb'd ...rough rough rentals.

We were talking houses so I just meant that a legit house in downtown Toronto is 3 times that price now.

Here's a garage for sale on the east side of downtown ....they even included pics of what it could look like after you buy it for $700k and then spend $1M+ to fix it up.

https://www.realtor.ca/re...lake-jones?view=imagelist

Don't get me wrong ...I live on the west side of downtown and love it ..my wife and kids love it. But we were lucky to get in 15+ yrs ago. It's expensive as (frank) to own here relative to what our friends in Tampa and Anaheim are able to buy for.

Kadri wasnt a playoff warriror. He was guaranteed to be suspended each playoffs, sure. But he wasnt some playoff "warrior".
Lets not be foolish.

- Fakepartofme

100% this. He was traded because of his questionable decisions and back-to-back playoff suspensions. He was no playoff warrior for Toronto.

PS - you really don't wanna play golf down here in the summer unless you enjoy heat stroke.

I don't think many people from up north understand what a 46C Heat Index day feels like when the humidity is 90% and the dew point is 26C. It's suffocating. It's hard to deal with when you've been accustomed to it. July through September is absolutely useless for anything outdoors.

- GalacticStone

I was in the Orlando area in June several years back. Hot as balls and a short thunderstorm in the early afternoon every day, followed by stifling humidity. I can see the appeal during the winter months but it was a lot to take in the summer.

The grass was really spongey though. I loved that.

Just my opinion ...I think the playoff struggles made it easy to trade him but I think the real reason he was traded is because they needed desperately to get better on defence and had no cap space to make it happen. Dubas found a creative way to bring in the top 4 RHD the whole world was screaming for and the cost was Kadri which made sense for them because the Leafs were deep at C with JT and AM and the AVs and Flames both wanted him.

The only fly in the ointment was that the top 4 RHD was Tyson (frank)ing Barrie.

I won't argue any of that. Cali has the worst taxes in the nation. I don't know how they do it. If it's difficult for working class people in Florida, I can't imagine how they survive in a fiscal environment like California. There is a lot I like about the idea of living somewhere in Cali (not the big cities), but the astronomical cost of living scares me away.

As much as I piss and moan about Florida, I don't leave because it's pretty much the same anywhere in this country : inflation, poopty expensive healthcare, terrible local politics, and culture war nonsense.

I need to just go Grizzly Adams my ass off into the deep wilderness somewhere and let all the bumholes fight it out. I don't want anything to do with 99% of them.

Fair enough, I am sure there were multiple contributing factors to the deal. Unfortunately yes, Tyson Barrie was not the answer we were seeking.
