You seem pretty confident in Adams late picks...that have proven nothing yet though...is this because Botts couldn't get jalapenos on the menu?
- washedup20

i said they're trending to NHL talent. we probably have a few more years to figure out their usefulness. late 2020 picks were junk, probably. "confident" is not a word I would employ.

Jason Botterill is lucky he hasn't been sued by Big Jalapeño

At least Benson got to 30, another highly regarded short king in Jack Hughes only got 21 his rookie year.

Heck, Hughes didn’t crack 40 till year 3.

I worry about our issues, not other teams

we have the longest playoffs draught in the history of professional sports teams right now

over the last 10 seasons we have drafted 9 centers in the first or 2nd round

5 were picked in the top 8 of their draft class

7 were picked in the first round

our biggest need today on the roster is a middle 6 center

Maybe bring in a goon to build the confidence of the highly drafted players already in the system?

Maybe Adams and Terry have been looking at the problems wrong the entire time and continue to do so....welcome to Buffalo Catton.

Botts’ draft picks have also had the most time to make an impact.

Fire Adams tomorrow and two years from now it’s “Well Quinn, Benson, Peterka, Savoie, Kulich, Power, and Byram are all Adam’s guys”

19 year old Benson and the rest of the prospect pipeline aren’t issues.

The coach and the crappy depth were the issues.

We’ve already solved one, we’ll find out the next few months about the other

Ok. Absolutely impressed. @DallasStars fans watching right now at @AACenter treated to real time AI tracking of the game as it happens in Edmonton. On the jumbo, and on our home ice. Wow!

This plan fails when the first punch of the season is thrown.

If you have scouting experience, you'll always be considered for a job.

Scouting-wise, every team's dept. misses on picks more than they hit on them, and it's not even close. From an article:

63% of first round picks played in the NHL, but less than 25% of second round picks survived and only 12% of third round selections. And it just keeps getting worse from there. Former NHL general manager Doug MacLean said his math over the last decade showed that only 15% of second round picks ever become impact players.

And then you have the NFL, where draftees are 3-4 years older (so, in theory, you should be closer to knowing who/what you're getting in a player): only 30% of players drafted into the NFL go on to play in the league.

Ripping on a scouting department is laughable, imo. Some of it is hard work, due diligence, having an eye, etc, but much of it is luck.

These things cut both ways. Are the guys who managed to keep their jobs here good, or just good at keeping their jobs?

I never said Botts’ drafts were bad ?

Adams has picked up where Botts has left off and then some.

It is normal for it to take 2-3 years for prospects to crack the league.

Adams needs to get the rest of the gig right lol

Again, drafting well in sports is still a failing grade in any other profession.

The issue here, at the end of the day, is the owners.

It is. Such a strange look for them to keep hiring and promoting from within. They just look scared.

Starting to think it's a GM that's inexperienced. Obviously there willing to spend money or else they wouldn't have handed out that many Extensions. Pegula is a meddler, but it's obviously more than that. IMO
