7 first round picks between 22 and 24 and bedard being one of them

hawks could be back in the playoffs before the sabres

do you find any irony in your belief that they're a playoff team soon

That's a good question and one that gets ducked around here. It may cost something to move him, but there's hope that enough retention will eliminate it. Even if that's true, they might prefer to pay something than retain any more than they have to.

11 is a lot to pay, but it wouldn't be a shock if a 2nd or prospect(s) were included in a deal.

Thanks to all for your inputs.

A couple of years ago Vancouver moved Jason D!ckinson and 2 years of his 2.65M cap hit and a 2nd for Riley Stillman (you know him). Boston moved 2 years of Taylor Hall at 6M for another 7th D.

Calgary moved Sean Monohan with a 1st to Montreal. Then the Canadiens flipped him for another 1st.

There is no set formula for these types of trades. I guess it depends on how desperate GM's are to create cap space.

they are building around an all star center

I think their prospects are better than ours

pretty simple really as they have gotten it done in the past as well while we have suffered

My thoughts are Chicago will still be a bottom 10 team next year, maybe a bubble team in 2025-26, then maybe reach the playoffs in 26-27. That's at least three years. I would hope your playoff drought ends before then.

No clue what the market looks like for him. That's really what determines this. I'm assuming it's soft to non-existent (especially factoring in his NMC).

If you're hoping to pick up 11 to take him, I have hard time imagining they'd go that far.

Wingers have been weak for several years.

I think the Taylor Hall trade would be similar.

Fair enough. With more $ and term, I think that equates to Buffalo likely adding (depending on retention). If they retained 50%, maybe he's worth a token return. I can't see them going that high.

11OA and Quinn gets it done.
- TheSabresTaco

Nah. Trade to a Division rival and a CaptIn, being the best player in the trade, IMO of course, that is weak, ahd would think It's going to hurt alot more. 11th is a Prospect and Quinn is Captain of Team Injured.

Using his brother's trade as a guide, but recognizing also Brady isn't as talented as Matthew, we would need to trim that back some. The Eichel trade has merit, except zero risk of a contoversial surgical procedure on a player's spine isn't in play.

Calgary got a 110pt L1 Winger, a Top 3 Dman, a B Prospect, Conditional 1st Draft Pick 3 yrs out.
Sabres got a 33pt L3 Winger, A Prospect, 1st Round in the next Draft (I zeroed out the 2nd & 3rd round exchanges)

Somewhere in the inbetween. Problem is the Sabres don't have what Florida gave up and I doubt very much Ottawa takes the Eichel return.
So, I would think at a minimum
- a promising, young L2 Player / Top 4 RhD
- a 1st within the current and next year's Draft
- an NHL-ready A Prospect

Ottawa does
- not need a C, if they re-sign Pinto and retain Norris (Stutlze, Giroux, Norris, Pinto, Grieg). ( Buffalo can't afford to trade an existing C either)
- would want a Top 4 RhD (Buffalo doesn't have one)
- would want a Top 6 LW to replace Tkachuck
- needs a Top 6 RW

I'd say something like, and still feels a bit weak

There's a balance between usefulness and cost to trade. A BO next year is 4, 6, 2, 2.

50% this year is 4.5 x 3. I can't imagine the Sabres would want to give up quality assets for 1.5M in cap space in 2 years when they actually need it.

Now if you can retain 2M for a very low return like Hall.. then I think it's worth it. Cause you're replacing him with a free agent/trade with a high cost, or eventually, you're paying Quinn/Peterka between 10-12M in total after this season. That's when you need the Skinner money gone.

Leaving out other contracts (Byram Levi etc) and free agents or trades.

If you only want to retain 2m, then I think you're adding to get something done. Just a guess. Maybe there's real interest and his NMC isn't going to be limiting.

We've already heard a few times that KA needs to save money for Tuch, so the classic move is just to save that money between now and then. Will be interesting to watch him operate. Can he really just wait? He certainly can't give long term deals with UPL, Byram, JJ, Quinn, and then Tuch. Adding toughness might have to start with the GM.

No idea. Hopefully for the Sens sake, Brady has enough class to keep his trade request quiet like his brother did.

So KA needs to get creative and get a western team to go get Brady, with the intention of turning around and dealing him to Buffalo.
Like how FL got Hoffman from them Hoffman was a Shark for about 65 minutes.

well right. at this point, the variables are endless. i think the one outcome that's obvious is that if you want to change the style of this team, jeff and his 9M need to not be here. especially in 2 years when that space dries up.

For whatever it’s worth to value considerations. Calgary got Hubie and Weegs, who were both entering the last year of their contracts. With both looking for big raises.

Probably start to gets some clues over the next month. UPL, Joker, and maybe Skinner will give some insight. Would love to see something bold, just know not to expect it. Kick off the off-season with a Bryson extension. Fans will love it.
