If you only want to retain 2m, then I think you're adding to get something done. Just a guess. Maybe there's real interest and his NMC isn't going to be limiting.
We've already heard a few times that KA needs to save money for Tuch, so the classic move is just to save that money between now and then. Will be interesting to watch him operate. Can he really just wait? He certainly can't give long term deals with UPL, Byram, JJ, Quinn, and then Tuch. Adding toughness might have to start with the GM. - Lunaion
Last offseason before July 1st, I was bullish on the Sabres.
This past season revealed quite a bit of discomfort in the roster makeup, especially when considering who the leadership group was comprised of. It lead me to what I have stated several times in the past about the proper leader of this team isn't on it yet. I just don't see the "Bobby Clark"/"Bryan Trottier"/"Mark Messier" type guy that screams Follow Me Boys, This Is The Way.
I see a bunch of guys who need to be lead, and their comments at seasons end confirmed that.
Those guys don't come around very often, and are incredibly costly to acquire unless very late in their careers.
It is very concerning to me as I think about the roster needs. Adams has trouble getting players who want to come here, let alone guys in high demand. I wish him luck, but am keeping my expectations low.
I was reminded of this again watching the The Worlds on Saturday. Cozens and Power had opportunities to contribute in that game and just couldn't perform when the lights were the brightest. Does the roster even have a Gamer on it?
Color me skeptical. |

Probably start to gets some clues over the next month. UPL, Joker, and maybe Skinner will give some insight. Would love to see something bold, just know not to expect it. Kick off the off-season with a Bryson extension. Fans will love it. - Lunaion

role players are easier to acquire than long term top talent. that's why kevyns rebuild looks like this.
last year he didnt talk about reshaping the bottom 6. he talked about defensive depth and then did whatever the (frank) that was.
so, i have cautious optimism that he puts honest effort into a top 6 F, middle 6C and reforms the role players. it's a big ask. and one he needs to do to be taken the least bit seriously, especially when he came out publicly to discuss the needs.

I think they have a small market mentality and just want to build a team that can make the playoffs, without doing anything too risky.

he hasn't shown otherwise, but his attitude suggests he will now. until then it's all hypotheticals until july 2.

Think there's a fair chance it will be their first move. Try to deal with him before QO's are due.

id rather sit here hoping he does instead of 'knowing' he won't, and then being shocked if he does something, anything.

So excited to have our 7th-8th defenseman back, we're preparing the banner now.

What have his 1st moves of the offseason been?
Girgs last year?
Bishop 2 years ago?
Anderson + Dell 3 years ago?
Man knows how to excite the fans.

Cozens opened the scoring no? And what about Brady Tkachuk in his quarterfinal game?
Cozens scores (but not when its relevant for you) = not a leader, not a gamer
Brady held scoreless = go get our fearless leader |

Don’t think he gets moved but if he’s out there…
Give Ottawa a blank check

Well, #GoSensGo Brady Tkachuk’s name is going around in trade talks, according to Jeremy Rutherford.
Buckle up.
Pretty sure there was a deal that fell through at the 2018 draft where the Sabres would send Ryan O’Reilly to Montreal for the 3rd overall pick and it fell through. The Sabres would’ve picked Tkachuk and Montreal decided to just pick…

@JoeMarinoBUF 11th, Quinn, and Savoie gets it done

That's a good question and one that gets ducked around here. It may cost something to move him, but there's hope that enough retention will eliminate it. Even if that's true, they might prefer to pay something than retain any more than they have to.
11 is a lot to pay, but it wouldn't be a shock if a 2nd or prospect(s) were included in a deal. - Lunaion
How much it would cost to offload Skinner is ducked around here?
How so?
There was shock on this board when a mere CapFriendly roster build had Chicago trading a 3rd for the remainder of Skinner's deal with no retention.
Trading the 11th overall with Skinner to get rid of him is a joke. |

They've shelled out a lot of money, and early, on player contracts.
Not sure I'd classify that as low risk. |

this franchise has not aimed high since briere and drury left
bringing in ror and eichel should have made this franchise aim high yet it did not
grabbing hall and skinner should have made this franchise aim high yet it did not
getting dahlin and power should have made this franchise aim high yet it did not
even now it seems the moves the last 15 months was to get this team to compete for the 8th seed in the east, instead of competing for the division lead and the cup |

I think TM was aiming high. JB was a safe, build from within guy. KA is a budget JB.

Did you read what I wrote, or just stop a few words in?
Everybody understands it would cost extra to offload Skinner.
It's such an expectation at this point that even a nothing CapFriendly mock GM by some Chicago fans saying they'd take Skinner's entire contract was shocking.
We all know it would be Skinner plus more to offload his contract, and it would take retention too.
Who is ducking that? |

Jeannot for the pick that becomes Berkly Catton, that has armed robbery written all over it and you’ll have that shoved in your face for 10+ years
2nd rounder for Jeannot, absolutely but not for 11th overall
