Good points. So then success wise, you are more inclined to for go potential wins by adding a older established player in order to get the team back on track for the long term.
I think what your saying makes a ton of sense, however, this fan base has been know to lose their patience very quickly.

I think the fans are starting to lose their patience with a middle of the pack team with no real shot at the Cup. A proper re-tool may buy both patience and respect from the fans. Happy Father's Day!

🛎️ 🛎️ 🛎️

Any objective person can see what this team needs. The “I believe in this group” mantra should’ve been retired three years ago. Love to see loyalty but not at the expense of the teams success.

The reported cost is a 1st and a top-6 foward/top-4 defenseman. So either way they'd be adding a player and subtracting one. I don't think a guy like Palmieri gets it done for WPG and moving a defenseman would leave a considerable hole on the blueline.

I'm willing to bet he ends up as a Hurricane in a deal that involves Martin Necas.

I did not see he was going to cost that much. For a potential one and done. I would pass on him then.

I would buying this. But again, you are looking at 3 to 5 year window with current group so you wanna have your first shot by yr 3. If there is no chance than more onto a complete overhaul.

This roster has been given every chance to get to a Cup. Time for a new direction, unless the owners are happy with just 4 home playoff games the last few years with a new building. The owners do not need to be hockey experts to see the team has regressed since the two ECF trips.

NHL Rumors put together a collection of 2024 NHL draft rankings from a variety of sources leading up to the NHL draft. Below is the listing for the Islanders at 20.

Teddy Stiga Andrew Basha Igor Chernyshov Michael Hage

Teddy Stiga
In improving his offensive stats from the 2022-23 USNTDP season, Stiga has always been described as a very hard worker, plays strong defensively, and has a high hockey IQ. He can contribute on the power play and penalty kill. Stiga doesn’t lack confidence or drive for a smaller player and can play in any situation.

Andrew Basha
Basha is a very intelligent player, playing a heads-up game that thrives on responding to the environment around him. The only issue is that he doesn’t do it consistently enough. There are tons of clips online that showcase his incredible puck movement and patience when looking for rebounds and scoring opportunities, but in my one live viewing, I wasn’t impressed with his impact, as he looked like he was floating around and disengaged from the play. There were few Tigers more impactful than him this season, and the team suffered several injuries, so his inability to provide a consistent effort every game was noticeable.

Igor Chernyshov
During this time, Chernyshov didn’t win any scoring records, but as an underaged player taking on ice time against men in the KHL, he more than held his own. He showcases a willingness to fight for his space on the ice and in front of the net, and he will drive opponents through the corners to force them out of play. He even has a solid scoring skillset that belies the talent of a top-six power forward.

Michael Hage
Hage has the tools to help transition defense to offense like very few, as he’s able to provide complementary playmaking, is growing as a dual-threat center, and is growing his defensive game.

Who would you select?

Rosner is covering a prospect per day leading up to the draft that are expected to be around when the Isles pick at 20. Hage was the first one he did:

I'm honestly not as convinced he will move it. He very well may, but they don't have much else to trade and the #20 pick in a less-than-spectacular draft isn't overly enticing for anyone. Even Lou must realize they need to start improving the pipeline at some point.

I agree. What kind of impact player is the 20th pick bringing back? This may be the year the pick is kept.

Yeah that would be so Lou to finally keep a first round pick in a not great draft. Believe me I would rather him hold onto it. But I think it’s exactly what’s wrong with him as GM at this point for us that he’s doing that in this crap draft(potentially) due to it not having much value.

Like he’s being forced to do the right thing and it’ll more then likely not help the team much anyway. Reminds me of our last GM.

Not very optimistic about the whole process Cpt. Granted the blueprint has become a little stale lately. However, I still think there is room for optimism.

Three years of ineptitude is a lifetime in professional sports. It’s one thing to really try to improve a team and fail. It’s a whole other thing to think your team is something it’s not and triple down on it. That’s the NY Islanders under Lou for the last three years. We have some good players but no I’m not optimistic for multiple reasons.

Yep and Milbury, Maloney… What differentiates Lou from them, if we’re to believe what he’s telling us, is he actually believes we had a Stanley Cup contending team for the last few years. That’s a problem.
