Sens might take JGP back. If this draft is not known as a strong draft, I'm not sure what impact players the Islanders can acquire by trading some of these picks. Islanders still have to shed salary to even bring in a quality player. - ses111
Maybe, but I think that’s more something people just want to believe. Sh!t I like JGP but I want to believe it. |

I think he’ll do some stuff but I think it’ll be much more minimal due to our situation with the cap, current contracts, etc. I’m just hoping he doesn’t do anything that will make the team worse long term. That’s about all I’m hoping for this off-season.
Don’t (frank) up the future anymore then he has already and it’s a win as far as I’m concerned. - Cptmjl
He really can't do much. Not signing Clutter and Martin would be a good start.

No he can’t but if he starts trading assets to unload contracts hold on. 😆 |

I thought the Stars would win this series in 5 or 6. The Oilers are playing really well. |

I would be absolutely shocked if he didn’t. I’m just trying to think what team is giving up a decent player for a first right now. Said it before but I can see the Sabres taking a vet if he were looking to trade one to begin with. Makes a lot of sense.
Not sure who but I can see them looking to add some vet leadership to try and take the next step. Can’t see them looking for picks though their fanbases heads would explode aka the never ending rebuild. - Cptmjl
The Utah team is also looking for some veteran leadership. I read it mention early on during the transaction phase. I would think the Blackhawks or Wings might want to add to their core. Picks and prospects back to us would be a good thing.
I think Lou will make his major moves during the draft and add depth at free agency. I do not see him making a big splash in free agency.

My response is why not. Lou could then use the picks to get a guy like FILIP HRONEK who is 3 years younger with less of a cap hit. JOHN KLINGBERG could be a fill in for cheaper. BRETT PESCE is a UFA. NIKITA ZADOROV is a UFA.
There are options out there if Lou decided to make the more. Not saying he will. Just saying that there are options. |

Question...Do signing bonuses count against the cap? |

When has this happened all at once since Lou has been here? - Cptmjl
Never, but I think after this last year, he’s gotta address some needs. I guess we’ll see July 1 🤷🏻♂️ |

I said the same thing. There are options, and the isles need to add assets finally without giving up any.

The Islanders do not have the Cap room or prospect pool to make impact moves to make them Cup contenders. The smart thing is to start the re-tool this offseason. When have the Islanders been able to make the impact UFA signing even when they had the room?

Yeah they may but I believe the NTC’s will prevent that from happening. Same thing that happened last expansion draft when we wound up trading Toews. |

He’s had to address needs for going on three seasons. His answer was Horvat and Romanov. Both players he gave up a first for in good drafts. I don’t dislike either player but don’t like the TIMING. You can make an argument for Romanov due to his age but I can’t see Horvat being a primary contributing player when this team is actually competitive again.
It’s far from competitive now. Watching the playoffs makes that abundantly clear. A trade or a signing isn’t fixing that unless our blue line magically improves. |

That would be next season. Let contracts expire or trade viable players at the TDL for more assets. Go all in next draft, try to save a UFA or two, and hopefully be competitive in year three. That’s a pipe dream bcs retools never really work and Lou isn’t going to do it to begin with.
Realistically a retool could’ve worked two years ago. There were two consecutive strong drafts, mayfield actually had value, and we didn’t have as many dead weight contracts on the books. I said it then and I’ll say it now that was Lou’s biggest misstep. |

Maybe the Islanders can get 2025 picks for Nelson and Palms this draft? I worry if the Islanders are close or have a playoff spot by the deadline, Lou will not want to move anyone. There is also the risk of Palms even remaining healthy again next year. |

I personally think Lou went afte top UFAs but missed. I agree that the isles are definitely behind the teams left. The Rangers in 5 years became cup contenders. They built through draft, trades and UFA signings. The isles haven’t been able to land the big UFAs, and their scouting seems suspect based on the many whiffs at the draft. In theory you have a top 5 pick who can be a legit NHLer, which then becomes an asset. The isles lack top assets. It’s always the same story with the Dal Colle’s or Wahlstrom’s. It seems like we’re always waiting for a first round pick to reach their potential. The good news is if Lou can’t field a competitive team after this year I think he’s done. |

Seeing Okposo still playing all these years later in the ECF, is maddening. If the isles didn’t think he was worth the term and money they should have traded him and gotten a return for said asset. I’ll NEVER understand letting a playing test free agency. The risk l/reward is awful and in fact it’s flat out mismanagement. |

Unless Roy does a 180, or the team is filled with injuries, this team will be in the mix.

I'm not sure I understand. I don't expect Lou to move out some of the bad contracts (even if he could due to the NTCs). He will likely run pretty much the same team back. I fully expect him to trade away picks if he can, but it's uncertain what he could get in return.

Lou’s not gonna trade Nelson or his Devil buddy Palmieri for picks. He’s gonna try and sign a UFA or 2 and maybe package someone with that extra second rounder for a player.
It’s a shame that Wahlstrom a former top 5 pick has so little value. It would be nice to be able to trade a top 5 pick for an impact player. |

It would be nice to sign a 1LW via free agency and let Nelson go back to 2C.
After seeing Anders Lee turn it up a notch in the playoffs, maybe they can find a taker for him and unload his salary. I also think it’s time to move on from JGP |

In the mix for what though? The Islanders are no threat to the final 4 teams. Just making the playoffs should not be enough.
