Yes, a good fit for Marner. He could be the face of their franchise for 9 years. They also have a young core and would be a team to recon with in a year or two. Maybe adding a Robertson and or Liljegren could gather even more picks or a better package going forward. Crouse would seem to be the logical fit. Add a couple of first's and call it a done deal.
To Toronto: Lawson Crouse, 2025 and a 2026 first rounders.
To Utah: Mitch Marner, Timothy Liljegren, or Nick Robertson.
Leafs get some draft capital and cap space to build the defense. Approximately $8M if this deal gets agreed to. |

None. No Movement Clause. - Rare_Jewel
Berube made him pay for coffee yesterday, and now he wants out.
But in all seriousness, I don't think he'd be meeting with the new coach in the offseason if he was going to be traded. |

What exactly is wrong with SLC? I'd way rather live there than Toronto. More favorable tax code, weather, and especially privacy for players. |

In this instance, the same reason a guy from Pittsburgh would rather play for the Steelers than the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

but as you put it, stick him the press box or on the 3rd line. tell him they are not going to re-sign him ....... you know .... all those things you said to make him waive. |

Not the same with Tavares because Tavares at 34 is worth a lot less than Marner at 27. Big difference in situations.
If Tavares leaves for nothing as a UFA, the team improves. If Marner leaves as a UFA, the team gets a lot worse. |

In this instance, I grew up in NYC and hate everything about the people and especially the sports teams. Yeah I get he's a hometown player, fact remains Canadians are the plurality of players and Canadian markets are most often blocked by the NTCs. |

If I lived in the Toronto area and anyone approached me and said "how do you feel about moving to Salt Lake City Utah in the US?", I would laugh them out of the room. I might punch the person who suggested it. I mean, why the (frank) would anyone in their right gottdammed mind willingly do that? I'd literally rather live in a cardboard box under a bridge in Canada than the nicest mansion in all of Salt Lake (frank)ing City Utah U-S-of-A.

You're going to have to prove that with some statistical figures.
And then after you prove that, you're going to have to differentiate the difference between living in Edmonton, Winnipeg, Calgary and Vancouver, Toronto or Montreal.
The Canadian markets are not for everybody, but for some players, it's paramount to play for the team they grew up cheering for. |

Utah is actually wonderful to live in for a variety of good reasons. The problem is, Marner has no connection to play for a franchise that doesn't even have a name yet but the Leafs is who he grew up cheering for. |

Considering no other player is in the news having coffee with Berube, I would have to say something worth discussing in public was important enough to be discussing in public.
Doesn't anyone else find it weird that they were actually in public??? Not in an office, or behind the scenes but a fuking coffee shop where they could be photographed?
Not Matthews, JT, Nylander, Rielly....Berube and Mitch?!?!
In light of all the news and speculation I find it an odd move. |

My understanding is Utah is hot and dry in the summer and cold and snowy in the winter. Rich athletes' accountants have ways of flattening the tax differences. Finally, some players might want to play in a metropolitan hockey mecca rather than in front of a bunch of Mormons in butt(frank) nowhere.
