My understanding is Utah is hot and dry in the summer and cold and snowy in the winter. Rich athletes' accountants have ways of flattening the tax differences. Finally, some players might want to play in a metropolitan hockey mecca rather than in front of a bunch of Mormons in butt(frank) nowhere.

I think you're making a tremendous amount of assumptions from a picture.

Considering no other player is in the news having coffee with Berube,
- underhill14

How do you know? If 10 players met with him at Starbucks but only one was photographed, did the other 9 meetings not happen?

I would have to say something worth discussing in public was important enough to be discussing in public.

What if coaches meet with players in public during the offseason because that's the new protocol for private meetings with players to avoid any accusations of funny business?

Doesn't anyone else find it weird that they were actually in public??? Not in an office, or behind the scenes but a fuking coffee shop where they could be photographed?

No, it's actually not weird. What's weird is losers who feel the need to secretly photograph famous people to create a buzz on Twitter.

Not Matthews, JT, Nylander, Rielly....Berube and Mitch?!?!

In light of all the news and speculation I find it an odd move.

It would be no more or less odd if it was any other player on the team.

Actually, the safest thing to do is leave the car running in the driveway.

But make sure it's electric, otherwise, you're a climate terrorist for letting it idle.

If I lived in the Toronto area and anyone approached me and said "how do you feel about moving to Salt Lake City Utah in the US?", I would laugh them out of the room. I might punch the person who suggested it. I mean, why the (frank) would anyone in their right gottdammed mind willingly do that? I'd literally rather live in a cardboard box under a bridge in Canada than the nicest mansion in all of Salt Lake (frank)ing City Utah U-S-of-A.

Seems your choices are limited First the USA would not want you and your second choice would be that cardboard box or your parents basement in the cardboard box

I agree it IS out of the norm far as the usual goes BUT could just be Berube's style. Given the rumors and media etc and Lebrun posting up Marner says he wont waive, could just be the new head coach goin c'mon lets grab a cup o' an chat. Berube knows this fishbowl well having played here. Given all the media of he doesnt fit Berube's style, Marner is gone etc it's not THAT surprising if a bit... unorthodox

Starbucks has been known to have land acknowledgements on their front doors so maybe Mitch was paying homage with Berube.

Quite honestly it's probably as simple as availability. Mitch is here, was available, and he and the new coach met. Maybe it was just a standard meet and greet to say hi and get to know one another. Maybe it was Berube's chance to introduce himself and tell Mitch about his philosophies and maybe even to discuss roles, responsibilities, priorities, plans, blah, blah, blah.

Berube has nothing to do with whether Mitch is there in October or not and players like Mitch are one of the attractions for a coach coming to Toronto. So I don't think I'd ready anything more than a new coach meeting one of his assistant captains.

If you could get Keller and Crouse and picks....kinda (frank) ya!

Foward line up would be much better suited for the playoffs and the money is a wash so still $18.5M to fill out the rest team.

Take Robertson and Lily (+2.5M) and move on from the small/soft game and find a Dman to trade for them (Parayko). Then sign 1 UFA D and a Goalie while re-signing Bert and Domi.

Bertuzzi (5.5), Matthews, -Domi (3.5)
Crouse, Tavares, Nylander
Knies, Kampf, Keller
McMann, Holmberg, Reaves/Dewar

Cowan, Minten getting close.

Rielly, Parayko ($6.5)
Beniot, McCabe
Webber, Zadorov ($5)

Niemela, Timmins standing by.

Woll
Brossoit (show me deal?)
Jones (another show me deal in case)

Berube kicking ass behind that bench might work out nice.

(JT last year of being too expensive so get a legit #1G then if none of the ones listed work out)

Wow, you can sure miss a point.

It is DEFINITELY weird that will all the current press and speculation that Marner and Berube would meet in publc where they could be photographed by a Twatter shiite head.

I think the more prudent thing to do to avoid any additional public scrutiny would've been to meet in private OR make sure there are pics of his public meetings with Matthews/JT/Nylander/Rielly.

Just a small observation. That's all. Nothing nefarious, just curious.

The way Toronto management controls the narrative and their standard level of secrecy, it's weird is all.

So hire a photographer to take pictures of their public meetings and post them online?

There's a lot of points missing here, that's for sure.

Ya, I know, so weird to think that the Leafs would have a Twitter account and a fuk ton of people on staff to snap pics.

Berube and Matthews on a park bench eating ice cream.

Berube with Rielly at the birth of his baby.

Berube with JT at his "How to be More Interesting" conference.

Berube with Nylander at the salon getting a blow out.

Andrew Mangiapane is on his final year that Treliving gave him. Don't be surprised if the Leafs are rumored to be interested in him at some point this coming season.

If the Leafs can't get Bertuzzi or Domi down to a low enough number, maybe Treliving tries to get Mangiapane with a reduced cap hit to try and fill that LW slot.

Utah is actually wonderful to live in for a variety of good reasons. The problem is, Marner has no connection to play for a franchise that doesn't even have a name yet but the Leafs is who he grew up cheering for.

Looking at it from a young millionaire's perspective who is used to living in Canada, I would not go for it. Maybe if he's settling down completely and raising a family, then it *might* be a good place. I would argue that I would rather raise a family in Canada than the US, especially a regressive red state dominated by an ultra-conservative religious cult.

Pass.

Like I said though, maybe a good place to raise a young family if you like the whole "strong family values" thing and don't mind sending your kids to school with a kevlar backpack.

That's what happens when you have 300 million+ guns floating around in circulation. People tend to get shot. A lot.

FWIW, I own two revolvers. A .38 snubnose and a .22 single-action wheelgun that is a scaled down replica of a 1800's Colt cowboy gun. I feel that my family is protected from crackheads and burglars. I'm under no illusion that I need a machine gun to engage in prolonged firefights with rival militias or government troops.

White Americans, which is the overwhelming majority of salt lake City, have very low violent crime rates. It's non-white Americans you have to worry about.

Wrong. When I am in traffic seeing road rage or pumping gas out in rural Florida, I am worried about drunk young white redneck kids more than brown people. Take your racist cherry-picking of statistics somewhere else. But you do you I guess.

PS : go back and slowly re-read what you typed. It doesn't look or sound good, in addition to being flat out wrong.
