what about the contract, and how much Necas will want?
- Pat1993

needs to be settled before making the trade imo.

no problemo. all top6 forwards will eventually make that kind of money. Slaf included.

personally I don't find it's a particularly good idea to invest that in a guy who seems to be very peripheral and not all that responsible defensively, if Brindamour couldn't solve those issues with him in his game I'm not convinced St-Louis would.

if Necas was perfect CAR would not trade him. he would play on their 1st line and eveybody would be happy.
so he's not perfect.
what other options does Hughes have?
Zegras? not perfect either.

no GM will trade their future core if they think these kids are the real thing. see Dach and Newhook. if they do it will cost you an arm to get them, and I mean a lot more than Matheson.
at one point Hughes will have to pull the trigger and make a move. he just needs to decide after who he wants to go after.

Zegras and Necas are only 2 players among many others from many other teams, I expect a trade that wasn't necessarily on MTL media's radar and that could pleasantly surprise us.

I think the more pertinent aspect if this scenario was on the table is acquiring a 25 year old RFA you technically have control over signing to whatever deal vs a 30 year old off their best ever season who is a UFA in two years while you have the deepest defense prospect depth in the NHL and have issues scoring.

I'd take Zegras before Necas. No hesitation for me.

again no, he not a centrer flirting with 80 pts and has leadership qualities

at one point it says he was on the 4th line, on what planet he is getting paid 8m ?

6 something or you pass

well I think it's pretty clear we disagree on that though, I wouldn't be giving him 8M per for 6 years...

There's no way they give Necas 8M.

That's basically sending the message to Slaf he'll get even more.

He can be taken to arbitration, so if he's being a giant baby about his price tag, Hughes could probably get him for 5.5 on a one year deal. It's more thinking long term because he's 25 and should get better. Carolina also seems to be bad for individual numbers outside of guys name Aho.

I'd prefer Necas over Zegras.

my only interest in this to begin with is it seems to be possible to aquire him for an aging D

And Zegras would cost way more
