Shesterkin apparently asking for 12M per year for his next contract

Good goalie, makes any team better, but I do not think you build a team around a goalie anymore - at least one with a $12M cap hit.

if the salary cap goes significantly higher, then yes you could, but I wouldn't trust this league with anything they say

Players owe(d) so much escrow, they are still digging out of that, even if most of it paid off now. But I am not sure the players are interested in a high escrow number to help grow the cap that much, going forward.

Will be interesting to see, but unless new avenues of revenue arrive, I do not see large cap growth, but gradual year over year small steps.

last i saw merch revenue rose 21%. and supposedly the escrow has been paid back in full.

but we will know more when they finally get around to releasing the cap number for next season. CF has been working with 87M and they are usually accurate when they release their new list for the season.

also Shesterkin will already be 29 years old when his new contract kicks in, so unless he's made of steel, giving him an 8 year deal sounds like a horrible idea

I wonder how it's gonna pan out for GMs and players with the cap potentially going up, does it mean the former will have more to work with to spread out on the roster, or will the latter just be getting bigger salaries individually, not leaving a whole lot to distribute..?

They might see a bit of a bump in merch, given new team swag for next year in Utah.

I am not sure if they are on track for the 5% annual growth and 6% escrow yet, I heard the players almost paid it back but have not seen anything to validate is is completely done.

Regardless, $12M for a goalie is stupid.

Even if the cap is up by $5M
