Ottawa would hang up the phone laughing if the deal was Markstrom and Mangiapane for Batherson and nothing else. A sweetener is like a fourth-round pick, not one of their best players. He's better, younger, cheaper, and bigger than Mangiapane plus he's a right-hand shot and he's signed for three more years at a decent number. - Squeaky

Hey flames fans, serious questions:
What is the plan for Calgary? Say for the next 4-5 years.
Also do you expect want Tij Iginla to be selected 9th? Do you expect him to be there - AlfieisKing
There's not really a path to success in the next 4-5 years. They have too many good players to be awful and no great players to be competitive.
I'd prefer they didn't end up with Iginla but it's sure seems like it's going to happen.

The glaring weakness in our prospect pool is a potential #1C or a top pairing D man with a big shot, size and bite.
Tij is likely to be available at #9 unless some team thinks he can play C in the NHL. Will we draft him if he's there at #9? If they think he's the best player available when they pick yes. |

What do we think of our new Assistant Coach?
Wondering if he was Husky’s pick or if Conroy brought him in. |

Does Drai get a couple games for that blatant elbow? How many games did Ras get for leaving his feet on a hit at the beginning of this last season?
If Drai is not suspended, can the Edmonton fans keep complaining about the refs? - DuranDuran
Well that question got answered. You know if you polled every team fan base, they would all say they were shafted by crappy officiating. Tough job yes but holy cow in this world of technology, how in the world does the league not clean up this obvious fan perception league wide. I once had a boss tell me that when your business is dealing with consumers, perception is reality. So even if you think they are out to lunch wingnut perceptions you have to address their reality or you will have a very unhappy customer, who in all likelihood will tell there story to people in their sphere of influence. I dont think the NHL can make it perfect but holy smokes they should be trying to improve it. |

If they’re not shuffling roles and he’s taking over Savard’s job.. Bad news. Larsen ran a terrible powerplay in Columbus. |

Laine looking for a fresh start.
Laine for Huberdeau?
Yaa or nay? - K-man25
Unless Calgary is throwing in multiple firsts, why would Columbus ever do that?
Laine is five years younger, makes two million less per year, and is signed for five fewer years.
The only way to trade Huberdeau is if they can figure out an awful anchor of a contract for another awful anchor of a contract like the Neal for Lucic deal.
All they can do is hope they get a couple more seasons of last year's second half Huberdeau. Players bounce back all the time. Two years ago, the worst contacts in the league were Bobrovsky and Skinner.
Laine could be worth going after if the BJs are just trying to dump him. |

Nobody is giving up a first nevermind multiple firsts for Laine. He’s still in the program and hasn’t been successful in quite some time. Huberdeau would provide a positive veteran leadership for the Blue Jackets. Was just wondering if anyone would take a chance on a broken 26 year old forward.

It's not giving up firsts to get Laine. It's giving up firsts because Huberdeau is still owed over 73 million dollars, most of which is signing bonuses.
If the Flames can get Laine without giving up anything of value, then absolutely, take that swing. |

Huberdeau should just say he is allergic to Alberta Beef and go on the LTIR. He signed the contract; if he is not going to live up to it, he needs to find a way to undo it.

Totally agree. Should be like that on all these high $ deals. They are based on how these players performed prior to signing them. |

I would rather buy the most expensive Waygu steak in the country, dry age it to perfection, boil it in my own vomit until it is as tough as a piece of leather, pull out my own teeth with a pair of pliers, and then eat my vomit-boiled Waygu steak than cheer for your hockey club.
I would wish you luck tonight, but it would appear you spent it all on your four first-overall picks.
Go Panthers. |

I've been a Flames Fan for 40 years. I've lived in Florida for 15. I would have cheered for any Canadian team other than Oilers or Leafs. So therefore ...... Go Panthers!!!

Looks like Lindholm is going to test free agency. Turned down 7 x 7. Was a nice raise but not like what Calgary offered him. |

Thank god he turned it down, Flames would be in a bigger mess with that contract. |
