Nice Read! Little of this and that.

The Panthers are going to win the cup because Kevyn has OCD about not having at least one pick per round.

They play that way, and got destroyed by a group of AHL lifers who grinded them into irrelevancy.

Anyone notice a trend:

Ostlund:

The Calder Cup Playoffs can be unforgiving to a 5-foot-11, 163-pound neophyte like Buffalo Sabres center prospect Noah Ostlund.

Forget about the talent and supreme hockey sense the Swede, 20, possesses. He was the lightest player on either roster during the Americans’ North Division semifinal series.

Kulich:

Following a regular season in which he roared out of the gate, slumped in the middle and finished on a tear, Buffalo Sabres center prospect Jiri Kulich struggled in the Calder Cup Playoffs.

Kulich, 20, scored nine goals in his final 13 regular-season outings for the Rochester Americans. In a game he did not score during that torrid stretch, he pumped 11 shots on goal.

Rosen:

As a first-round pick in 2021, 14th overall, Rosen arrived in North America in 2022 with a reputation as a skilled offensive player. While he has grown that part of his game, he has also developed into a trusted two-way threat.

“I think Isak is on a great trajectory for that, and now he needs to attack this summer and keep changing his body and keep adding more strength and power and explosiveness.” - Appert

Savoie:

But like so many other moments during Savoie’s 14-day conditioning assignment with the Amerks, it was a chance to grow, a chance to learn how to better use his body to perhaps derail the attack of a stronger opponent.

Sabres could build a brand new, more impactful 4th line of Joshua, Rafferty and Carrier for $5M-$6M annually.

Those players could even play up a line when needed, in case of injury, for example.

I have zero faith in Adams and company doing that.

You will get
-1FA L4 Winger
- 1 Trade for a 3C (he might even trade for a 4C and promote him to 3C....Sabres have a long history of playing guys 1 line/pair higher than they are capable of).
- Re-signed Payton Krebs for 4C

That's it. Anything more will be a complete surprise.

Doesn't really do the trick IMO but please correct me if my math looks off. Did this on very little sleep.

We will have 36M between now and next year to sign the below. Add in Bennett, Mantha and some 4th liners who aren't cheap for their TOI and I think we're losing one of these kids:

UPL
Joker
Krebs
Byram
Peterka
Quinn
Greenway

Now I realize, we have some money to spend there, but let's assume Peterka/Quinn account for 13 (6-7M each). UPL will be 5. Byram will be 5. You can let Krebs, Joker and Greenway walk, but then you have 13M to sign about 9 players. We need 3 defenders to replace Bryson, Joker and a 7th D, along with Girgs, Krebs, Okposo, Olo, Robinson and Greenway's spots. If you add Bennett and Mantha, that swallows up the majority of that cap space alone. That's why, IMO, you can't get both. One middle6 forward is something we can add, two, with some expensive 4th liners isn't.

Edit: Trading away a defender does give a little more breathing room, but still doesn't really get you there with 10 spots then and 17M on offer.

Sure.

However the creampuff, passive play this past couple of seasons by the Sabres, Coached by Donnie Granato was the result of Donnie's "system". It was very evident that 18 skaters all played the same passive style. That is Coaching.

Now, we may see how these players react to, hopefully under Lindy, a more aggressive attacking style... We shall see who is unwilling to buy in and so it.

UPL gets 1yr
Joker is bye bye
Krebs is bye bye
Byram is a weird situation I don't know here ?
JJ gets a long term
Quinn gets bridged
Greenway leaves and Wahlberg takes his place on his ELC

UPL gets a 1 year, so you're good with Levi and a cheap backup being the goalie plan in 2 years?

And that's all fine, but if so you aren't saving any more than my projection outside UPL. 11 spots then, for 22M still is a rough average to have to deal with. Have to promote 3 ELCs outside Wahlberg most likely, leaving you with about 17M for 7 spots.

Well I guess, isn't the Coach telling players to turn away from a hit to retrieve a puck or not finish a hit.

For next year are you talking or this year, because next year will be affected by what or if Adams makes any moves and what players are used in those moves this year. Sabres should not allow the Cap to hinder what ever move they make. They have players who can be moved if need be.

Barkov-Tkachuk-Reinhart-Verhaege is a pretty top notch top 4 forward core no ?

Forsling went from waiver claim to prime Marc Edouard Vlasic overnight and along with Ekblad is probably neck and neck with Ekholm/Bouchard as the top defensive pairing the last several months.

Am I missing something ?

- Swedish_Jesus

If Edmonton offers McDavid/Draisaitl/Bouchard/RNH for Barkov-Tkachuk-Reinhart-Verhaege... How quickly does Florida say yes.

The question was who was more talented. Not who's the best functioning team

I mean, they can model themselves like Edmonton and Colorado did as well.

At the end of the day you need to lean into your identity.

The Sabres identity crisis this season was completely avoidable, and that’s why bringing in Lindy is such a breath of fresh air for me.

Was just talking about the next season. And fair enough, that's just why I think we lose one of Peterka or Quinn in the long run if we go heavy this year. I don't want to spend big to make 7th place then watch another young star in the making get a plane ticket to a contender.

How long do you expect this to take to be implemented, how long do you need to assess if a player can adapt to it?

Gotta give to get, and it really depends on how big Adams wants to go Trade wise. It would suck losing one, but isn't are prospect pool as good as it supposedly is to help with that lose.

Best way to do it is in the Armchair GM on CapFriendly. It does the math for you, and is kinda fun too.
