They traded McD and Callahan both whom were better players and captains. Trouba can easily be moved if they want
- nyrangers2

Wouldn't say easily

I know, but for whatever reason I just don't see it happening. They specifically traded to get him, and then made him captain.

Like I said, it's just my opinion but I don't see them doing it.

I give you credit for saying this all year including during the trade deadline. I agree. They need more snarl. I want the rangers to be the team where we are all huddling with the other team around THEIR net. And we don’t let anyone into Shestys crease. This team is just too soft as constructed.

Zib refuses to play physical. Same with Panarin.

- banger94

When they played WSH and CAR they played like the older brother beating up the younger brother in the games they won. In the ones they lost, they tried to finesse their way to a W and tried to avoid mucking it up. Ironically, when they tried to avoid that, they lost. Against FLA, they played scared. Weren’t engaged physically etc. Where was that big kid on the block attitude they had with WSH and in the games they won against CAR?

Florida would steam roll him.
- aecliptic

They didn't steam roll Gus, they just took advantage of his lack of speed. Plus Jones is willing to push back, as we saw when he was in the lineup.

Jan, great stuff as always.

In the future I'd like to see our GMs give out slightly less years on the deals. Feel like more have one or two extra years tacked on where we then have to have the buyout conversation. Stop giving those +2 years and stop with the NMC or NTC maybe?

Cally trade was fine. McD was terrible. Point is the rangers have no issues trading captains. And trouba is awful. Said it for 3 years and he’s only proven me right each year

I just wanted to say thank you for what was, from an outside perspective, an incredibly entertaining series.

As far as size/toughness goes, it has nothing to do with Rempe. True toughness is every single player in the roster being willing to skate through a wall for each other. That is Florida's toughness, that is why they have the Rangers fits. The Rangers weren't willing, or able, to do the same. That's not something one puncher can change, it's a mindset every player has to have. It's not easy to find.

- jmatchett383

Agreed it’s a team toughness mentality that has to set in. You definitely saw (and I mentioned it numerous times) when Rempe was dressed, guys played more physical . It definitely gave guys a feeling of toughness having him out there with them. It’s why I wanted his ice time increased, FLA definitely felt it also when he was out there, constantly checking over their shoulder to see where he was. They need more players “like” him to
Change the team mentality.

It's really comical. Dallas who has the toughness and grit most here are clamoring for ,and are very similar to Florida, are about to get eliminated . Last year we were looking for more speed to better compete with the Devils now we want more grit and size. There is no one size fits all plan to win the Cup. We are close . Tearing it down isnt the answer IMO.

That mcdavid goal was something… similar to Laf’s but wasn’t end to end.

It is funny Drury refused to give Knoblach a chance. First season with Edmonton takes them to the cup finals

Would have done better than Lav? Im not sure. A coach cant suit up, go out there and fight and grind for the guys. The guys have to decide to do that for themselves, and they didnt.

Wanted him originally. Don’t think he does any better than Lavi. Drury needs to get his fingerprints on this team. It’s really just trocheck and left overs from gorton

JFC what a horrendous schedule for the finals. They don't start until Saturday, and there is 3 days between games 2-3, 4-5, 5-6, 6-7.

Game 7 would be on June 24th!

Panthers love to bully teams around. I remember a game on April 2nd when the bottom 5 young Habs bullied them back and won the game. Jeff Gorton is building that team. That’s your mistake. The man was doing an incredible job and he got fired for a nobody lol

Gorton is responsible for trying to turn this into a European mega team by drafting Andersson, Kravtsov, Lundkvist, Chytil and Kakko in the 1st round.

Gorton wasn’t good. Missed on Lias kravs kakko signed trouba and gave away McD. Draft soft perimeter type players. This isn’t a pro Drury post but gorton isn’t that good

To be fair, I wouldn’t put kakko on gorton. There was serious talk about him going number one overall over Hughes as he was deemed more nhl ready (obviously not the case after the fact). Just saying kakko wasn’t a gm fault, he was just a bust.

While I agree with the majority of people here regarding Trouba, I think there is a ZERO percent chance the Rangers actually do trade or buy him out. I do not see any way that they will do that to the captain of the team, regardless of how he's played.

But, stranger things have happened.

Dunno Dave, look at our last few captains

I'm late to the party, I know they traded for Trouba, but I kind of believe if Kreider had wanted the C he woulda gotten it but he declined.

Don't know, just feel like Trouba can't see the end of that contract here. Unless he turns it around next year

Exactly. So that shows how good Gorton was. He built a contender despite his scouting staff missing on all those 1st rounders. That’s amazing stuff.

Regarding Trouba, kinda like Fox, let’s see if they were dealing with some serious injuries before we crush them. I’ve been a huge Trouba guy, wanted them to trade for him and have been a big supporter of his, but he was terrible these playoffs. I’m not so sure he wasn’t dealing with something serious.
