I missed the game last night, and from reading here, I guess Bouchard did not have a good game. Looking at his TOI, he played about 31 minutes, so that’s interesting.
- Angotti

Nurse got hurt early in the game and only logged about 4 minutes. They leaned on Bouchard to make up for his absence.

I would also say no. Not many players in this league are worth giving up the second pick. It's an opportunity to draft a real difference maker.

Going back the last 25 years, this is what a second pick was:

1999 - Daniel Sedin
2000 - Heatley
2001 - Spezza
2002 - Kari Lehtonen
2003 - Eric Staal
2004 - Malkin
2005 - Bobby Ryan
2006 - Jordan Staal
2007 - JVR
2008 - Doughty
2009 - Hedman
2010 - Seguin
2011 - Landeskog
2012 - Ryan Murray
2013 - Barkov
2014 - Sam Reinhart
2015 - Eichel
2016 - Laine
2017 - Nolan Patrick
2018 - Andrei Svechnikov
2019 - Kakko
2020 - Byfield
2021 - Matthew Beniers
2022 - Simon Nemec
2023 - Leo Carlsson

Where does McTavish fit on this list?

Quite a list. I’d give her a spin at 2 with those odds.

The Blackhawks have been very secretive about the in-house analytics system they’ve built, but they believe they have something pretty unique. This is another situation where they should gain a competitive advantage vs. teams who haven’t invested in this.

Per Ben Pope

I mean, I would prefer if they weren't so secretive about it; I've been trying to write a story about it for years to no avail.

My understanding is their in-house system incorporates all of the info on players, from on-ice performance to monetary value

Bowman bragged about the same advantage. Hawks had one of the worst drafting success records in the NHL.

Pope replied

Bowman did, but he was lying

From what I understand, the Hawk players have an app or program that breaks down their games and allows them to see what they need to work on. So they have data that not only helps the front office assign value to players, but also helps the players. Not a bad thing at all.

Devils no the road to recovery

Keefe adds former Blackhawks coach Colliton to Devils' staff

- wiz1901

Yeh well maybe he knows how to run the carousel drill .... or how to direct all of the pucks be sent to one corner or another ... but um yeh, may want to check that resume there NJ - it might have been embellished just a smidge (based on observations of past performance at the NHL level).

I guess he's going to be in charge of the offense, which i thought he was pretty good at.

Colliton will be in charge of the offense and power play. His Abbotsford teams have had 2 pretty good seasons. He also coached the 2022 Canadien Olympic Team. Maybe he has grown since his time in Chicago?

He was put in awful spot by Stan Bowman. That was not Colliton´s fault. Coaches can develop too and being assistant coach is probably good spot for him. He did good job back in Rockford too remember?

He probably has grown, and he certainly needed to do so. He also had a couple issues in Chicago that weren't his fault. Such as replacing a coaching legend, and a rapidly deteriorating core who had already quit responding to Q. And a front office/ownership that couldn't decide if it wanted to rebuild.

Fair enough but my sarcastic point was Keefe sure didn’t have the Leafs playing defense so he and Colliton will work with the offense ….

Nhl gets it wrong yet again. Draisaitl Clearly targets Barkov's head and yet no suspension. Imagine the Oilers fans if someone hit MCwhiner that high.?

Another stupid NHL rule. The jaw is not part of the head according to the NHL. This has been the second jaw hit that hasn't resulted in a suspension these playoffs. Almost as bad as the "Hitting Zone" when Seabrook was knocked out by the net by Wisniewski

There are three sets of criteria when determining suspensions, if the player is a star be lenient, if he's a regular player first time offender a light judgement and if he’s a goof multiple offender, throw the book at him. Draisaitl as a first time offender deserved a lighter suspension, say a game or two.

I get it, but the Oilers are down 2-0, the NHL wants this to go more than 5 games.

From Powers today in the media mock (after picking Levshunov at 2):

“I believe the Blackhawks are largely deciding between Levshunov and Ivan Demidov. This could change in the next month, but as of today, I think they’d select Levshunov. Since taking over as general manager, Kyle Davidson has prioritized building a defense. It’s what crumbled first under the last regime and held the Blackhawks back from extending their Cup window. Although the Blackhawks have a lot of promising defensemen in the pipeline, what Levshunov brings would likely bolster and complete the group. Davidson could then turn his focus to bolstering the offense around Connor Bedard.”

The last sentence was particularly interesting to me. You’ve got - in this hypothetical - your top-4 set for the foreseeable future in Jones, Vlasic, KK, Levshunov. Then whatever comes of Del Mastro, Rinzel, Phillips, Allan, etc. is gravy, sprinkled in with veterans at the bottom pair (Murphy or outside cheap adds).

Then the only thing KD needs to do is to shore up the roster by finalizing the top-six. He’ll have a full look at Nazar this year, Moore on his heels next year, another forward added with pick 18 this year, a likely top-6 addition this off-season to play with Bedard, and then next offseason you’ll again have buckets of cap space and high draft picks again (likely top-10 pick) to bring in yet another forward.

I know Demidov is the want for most, but if the Hawks get that elusive top-pair RHD now, it’s full speed ahead with focusing on forwards afterwards.
