It should be stunning, but it's not lol. The NHL is a billion dollar business that doesn't provide it's franchises with a basic tool to manage their operations. Teams relying on a fan web site for crucial data is surreal.

Makes me wonder now if actual GMs are proposing trades in the arm-chair GM tool to get feedback on whether they should actually make those moves.

I wonder if the NHL has the power to stop the Caps from buying CapFriendly, and instead just buy it themselves and host it on nhl.com.

The NHL can veto trades, contracts, and a lot of things their teams do. No idea if buying a hockey fan site is one of them.

If the NHL were run by smart people, they'd realize that site/information is a HUGE fan engagement tool. Unfortunately it's run by idiots, so they'll just let it go away.

I still can't believe individual teams were/are using a third party fan site as a database for decision making.

@Matchett....its the anniversary of the Pens 2009 cup and the dying moments of the game and the MAF diving save are being shown on social media by NHL.com. That shot would have went in 100% if he didnt save that hahaha

Kinda makes sense why GMJR didn’t know he couldn’t trade for Karl Hagelin back mid season if the league’s contract and CBA details are apparently locked behind the same super vault as the Coca Cola secret formula.

PHN suggesting the Pens take a shot on Laine. I think there has been someone on here the last 2 years calling for this...

If you want a sniper, he's your guy (14.7%). The Pens sure could a few snipers.

Just go on CapFriendly and make a trade proposal. We know NHL GMs are lurking on that site, maybe you can seed a trade. I'd propose all our bad players for Laine.

Saying Kingeraki agrees with you won't help a lot on here lol.

That said, I might want to explore that this time because he probably comes at a discount, the two year term fits our "window" where it lines up with Malkin, and he fits that RH sniper for the PP better than anyone but Stamkos that I've seen. Might even be able to flip him for a better return in a couple years if they are in sell mode.

So yeah, I might be interested depending on the price. We can afford his full cap hit. Downside would be that's a lot of defensive liabilities in our top six with Malkin, Laine, Bunting, and Rackell. Might need to put someone like DOC or another addition on Malkin's left unless they can completely hide that line.

The hardest part here is estimating how much negative value Laine's contract has at its full $8.7M/year. I would think $3-4M/year negative value for 2 years, so if CBJ were to retain $3.5M/year they'd get back a mid-round pick.

Not sure if they'd instead be interested in taking on some of our bad contracts and not retaining anything. Graves has about $3M/year negative value atm but for more years. CBJ has few forwards under contract so they might be interested in Rak or Smith.

Idk, hard to estimate the value of a player coming out of the assistance program.

Its hard to think he will provide full value on that $8.7M, but it is only for 2 years. Like I'd rather have Jake for the next 2 years at $8.7 but he is going to want 7 years. I think Pittsburgh could actually be the best place for him. Low pressure environment, he could find himself sitting on the off wing on PP1 taking feeds from Karlsson at the top of the umbrella and Crosby cross ice. Could be deadly.

I find it unlikely that Graves would go back because of the term, but Columbus is going to struggle to get to the cap floor the next couple seasons potentially. I could totally see them retaining up to half of his salary if someone is willing to pay for it.

Rackell, POJ & some picks/prospects for Laine and Provorov (1/2 ret) might make sense. Rackell had some salary front loaded and is a good player to mix in on a line with Gaudreau and one of their young centers. Would likely need to be contingent on Smith getting traded without a contract coming back to have it make sense cap wise. Laine is 26 and Provorov is 27, entirely possible they could fit in long term with the team.

Looks like Penguins legend David Warsofsky has a brother and he is now the coach of the Sharks
