The PP was crap for the second half of the season(Marner was not injured for the whole second half), when other teams figured them out and they just couldn't adjustment. Reilly is very predictable with zero shot threat. . Leafs have lost the special teams battle every series they have lost.

The PP is a major problem in Toronto and one of the reasons this team can't win in the playoffs.

If you look at the breakdown of their shots, Montour is clearly the best option, but OEL isn't too far off. The data presented here does include the playoffs because I neglected to exclude it from the source data, but this is how some of the names being bandied about compare in their shot performance:

If there's one thing I don't love about Montour on the PP - while he has 5 Slapshot goals, his frozen puck rate is high and his rebound rate is pretty low. He has the highest slapshot shooting percentage of any legitimate defenseman we've discussed (Zadorov has a nice shot, but he's just too slow to be on the power play). It makes me wonder how his 5 goals with a 5.7% rebound rate would ultimately compare with OEL's 2 goals with a 17.9% rebound rate.

I don't love either one defensively, so whenever you're looking at an offensive defenseman for your powerplay, there's a pick your poison element in there. I sincerely think the acquisition of a new PP quarterback happens if they can get Rielly to waive his NMC, otherwise it's probably putting too much risk on the back-end.
